For an outside hanging hurricane lamp holder, I purchased 2 packs of these. The leather had been skillfully braided and was perfect for encircling the rope. We needed something to cover the space between the loop and the hose clamp after we painted the clamps black and strung them on a rope. It was a fantastic success, sort of an east meets west thing. I only gave it four stars because I made a math error and assumed the leather would be thicker. So perhaps I should give my math a 1 instead than a 4 for the leather.

This is exactly what I intended to use as the base for my pendant. The leather is supple and smooth, and it has a pleasant leathery odor. I scrubbed it clean with Listerine and hydrogen peroxide before immersing it in 70% isopropyl alcohol for many hours. It is hoped that this process will weaken any "glue" that may exist. I want to separate it from the glued portion because I just need a few feet. I pulled on it firmly and scratched it with my fingernail, but the strip cord's glued part was nowhere to be seen. It is a single unit. I first dried it before dipping it in Johnson's baby oil for an hour. It is now softer, smells better, and has a darker hue than before. I tied my flint with it and fixed my notepad with it. It accomplishes that goal admirably.
