This scale is simple to use and came in excellent packaging. After weighing a number of items with known weights, I think it's rather accurate. Since I've discovered that scales with red on black digital readouts are difficult to read in sunlight and this scale works perfectly outside, I truly appreciate that the digital readout is black on gray. The scale's absence of an automatic hold or a remote control to operate it from the ground is its only drawback. I use the scale to weigh enormous round hay bales, and because I have to read and record the weight while standing in the back of a truck with the bale in the air (most are 6' tall), I am unable to use the Hold button in this situation.

I have been weighing everything using this hanging scale. Weights, items, and kids. Your choice. Except for the mounting hooks, the entire scale was made of plastic when I first opened the package. There is no way this will lift 660 pounds, I was thinking. Yes, indeed! Indeed it will! When I get around to it, I'll share some pictures of the heavier lift items. The fact that we recently relocated and are currently unpacking makes things challenging.Use the Clevis thread pin all the way closed before backing it off by 1/8 to 1/4 turn, according to industry experts. When moving is necessary, this will make it simple to remove without tools. With clevis pins used to lift at least 30 tons, I have been doing this for years.

Since most manual scales we've found only weigh up to 300 lbs., and we've bagged several hogs over 300 lbs. in the past couple of seasons, we've discovered that this one attached to our hoist will handle practically whatever we need it to. Before I mention anything else, choose the metal casing for this scale if you must choose between plastic and metal. This item has incredible durability! Even the battery compartment is constructed of metal (being in the military I need devices that can take a beating). The shackle and hanging hook appear to be highly sturdy and unlikely to bend, even when subjected to loads greater than that for which they are certified. Three distinct weight forms can be read out using the interface, which is rather easy to use. The battery box might have been made to better suit the batteries, which is why I did not award this product 5 stars. I did not see what the correct battery size was meant to be, so either I missed the instructions or the compartment was sized incorrectly. I'm using two AA rechargeable batteries right now and thus far no issues!

The appliance looks excellent. I want to use it to weigh frozen fish shipping crates as well as game (like deer and turkeys). I haven't used it yet, so I can't provide a functional review, but it seems well made and has some thoughtful features, including a shackle hook for connecting to your hoist. If I could go back in time, I would have chosen to purchase the one with the metal case. Although I take care to handle my instruments (such as this scale) carefully, purchasing the metal case could have given me even more peace of mind. The analog scale that it is replacing was dreadfully inaccurate ( /- 2lbs), and it met a merciful end when it fell off the hoist and struck the concrete.Update to earlier review: When I first opened the box, I was unclear as to how many and what kind of batteries the device needed. When I contacted Modern Step, the owner Paul responded almost immediately and answered any questions I had. He kindly offered to reimburse me for the cost of the batteries, which I gracefully declined. The batteries that were supposed to be included weren't there.
