Although this is a fantastic expansion pack, I wasn't aware that it only had enough pieces to construct a figure 8. The contents of the package go beyond what is displayed on the front. 4 curve pieces, 4 mini straights, or half-regular straight track sections, and the crossing are all included in the package. You will actually need 8 additional curve track pieces and 4 ordinary straight pieces to finish the set. Fortunately, I had many starting sets from Lionel that had enough components when combined with this box set to form the figure 8. It functions perfectly, albeit the crossing may present a challenge depending on the engine that is crossing it. Due to the fact that it only stopped once while crossing the crossing, the Polar Express set I tested out functioned fairly well. Not sure if the other trains will have the same luck, though; according to other evaluations, other trains have experienced issues. I would definitely purchase again. It significantly improves upon a conventional oval and truly alters the appearance. But at $75, I'd prefer to get the entire oval rather than just enough pieces to form it. Overall, I would repurchase.

In contrast to Bachmann's curved track, which I had difficulty fitting together after struggling with multiple components, this E-Z Track snaps together quickly and remains put.Since I've already spent a significant amount of money on this track for my HO scale layout, I'll stick with it, but for any more tracks, I'm thinking about Bachmann's Flex track, which is also sold on Amazon.

I'm a recently widowed retired man. I discovered my Bachman Spectrum passenger cars and ho steam engine while sorting through my wife's possessions. I wanted to test it out in the living room because I was so excited to see whether it still worked. The engine could move back and forth on the two 9" straight pieces of the only track I could find. So I needed a track immediately. I never imagined Amazon would see the tune, yet they do. The image I saw was appealing, and the evaluations were favorable. The concept of them snapping together and being able to be used on carpet without the track shifting appealed to me. I gambled and purchased several packs of the terminal rerailer, some 9" straight, and the curved 22" radius. First, it was sent to me in two days because it was on PRIME. I was astounded by how quickly and simply they snapped together and apart when I put them together.I wanted to circle the Christmas tree on the carpet with my train. (There should be a railway underneath or next to every Christmas tree.) I ran the train at full speed and was relieved to see that the track didn't move on the carpet; it lays flat there, and the train travels along the track evenly (there are no waves where the tracks meet). It fits firmly and snugly.) The tracks now lay on the ceiling as though they had been affixed to a platform. I then went and set up the Christmas tree inside the circle since I was so excited. To cut a long tale short, even though Thanksgiving Day 2012 was still four days away, my tree is up, decorated, the train is operating, and I went and completed all the Christmas decorating.The Bachmann Snap-Fit track is the only option if you older kids (like me) want to run your train only to discover that your track is no longer functional. Last but not least, I must appreciate Amazon for using the rewards on my Amazon credit card to pay for my track. You can't help but adore it when Amazon makes wonderful purchases for you. Merry Christmas to all of you who are reading this review, and don't forget to keep in mind WHOSE birthday is observed on December 25.

This item is not a toy for children; it is supposed to be a part of your train display. The majority of the negative reviews I read on other websites were due to a lack of comprehension of this reality. This crossing is awesome! The gates fully down when the train passes through, therefore it worked flawlessly with the EZ tracks. I don't mind that the gates don't close until the train is in the road because this is a mechanical system rather than an electrical one. This item has nickel rail, however my track is black with steel alloy rail. Even though my train's power over the nickel rail isn't as strong as it is over the steel, it still manages to pass the intersection.Additionally, keep in mind that a HO scale engine is required to pass through this gate because there is a plastic plate in the middle of the track that the train must cross (this plate is what closes the gates). Your train will become stuck if it is too light, like the Thomas sets.When I purchased this, I didn't consider another aspect of this plastic plate. I knew when I bought it that it wasn't a toy, but I still thought my son would enjoy using this gate crossing to get his Hot Wheels to cross the track. Well, your heated wheel closes the gates when you "drive" it across the track by pressing down on the plate! hahaha Even though I should have known better, my son now enjoys driving the automobiles through the crossing before the gates close.Despite its flaws, we still think this gate crossing is great overall.
