I have nearly 20 years of experience playing concert percussion. I already have a Timber Drum medium woodblock, but I needed two tones.Opening the woodblock and hearing the sound right away made it clear that something wasn't quite right. Compared to my previous block, it had a much thudpier sound. I reasoned that perhaps something had gone wrong during shippingââŹâpossibly it had gotten damp or cracked or something. I was unable to notice any damage, though.When I discovered the QC sticker that had been placed on the block's bottom, I was prepared to exchange it through Amazon. This sticker was not put in this location on my medium block.I tested it after carefully removing the QC stickers. Now it sounds fantastic.I would want to tell the manufacturer to REMOVE the stickers from the instruments. It makes a horrible alteration to the sound.

I've been looking for the ideal drum set tambourine for a while now. The fifth one I own is the greatest so far. It may install almost anyplace, including a cymbal stem, 9mm percussion rod, or a hi-hat pull rod. It is compact and reliable. It shocked me to learn that it weighs almost the same as my other hi-hat unit, but sounds much better, and the LP mounting bracket firmly grips the draw rod. My issue with the LP Cyclops drum set kit, which has been my go-to for many years, is very "clicky," but I really like the rubber hitting surface. It sounds amazing, but it doesn't cut like the Cyclops; I do wish there were THREE rows of jingles rather than just two. Perhaps a future model could have two rows of four, or three rows of three pairs...? In any case, for mounted and hi-hat applications, this is the best one I own. Buy it! (I'm thinking about a second one right now! ;)

I'm feverish! The only treatment is to STOP using more cowbell. I need more purple LP Jam Block, please!I should start by saying that this item is VERY sensitive to temperature. For the duration of my whole workday, I left the Amazon shipment in the sun in my truck. I opened it up when I arrived home and noticed right away how warm it was from being in my truck all day. Not crazy, but probably 105 degrees. At that temperature, the block was ACTUALLY DEAD. Nothing at allââŹâno projection, no volume. It merely sounded like random plastic object bashing. For a head start, I placed it in my freezer for 15 minutes. After that, I left it outside at normal temperature (70 degrees) for another 15 minutes, and it returned to its "average" operating temperature. I can guarantee that if you're performing outside and the sun is directly overhead, your performance will quickly descend into the deep south. Although my guess is that any hue bar the lightest ones will be affected by this occurrence, I'm amazed LP made it such a dark color.However, this purple block lacks the metallic clang that I myself detest and has the tone range of a medium- to large-sounding cowbell. In my opinion, it can be used to perform songs like "Mississippi Queen," "Don't Fear the Reaper," "Dance the Night Away," "Moby Dick," and others. This might stand out a little in songs when the cowbell is employed sparingly as an accent, like early Motley Crue (the finest example of a pure cowbell sound I can think of), Mississippi Queen, etc. Then again, it's unlikely that anyone will notice or, more significantly, or care if you play in a band through a P.A.It's BIG and NOT LIGHT, however. For this, you'd better have a sturdy mount. It must actually weigh close to 2 pounds. Like other LP Jam Blocks, it may be mounted from either end or in the factory configuration at the rear center, but if you choose the latter option, I STRONGLY advise having an EXTREMELY strong mount. Ignore the vast majority of single arm mounts that can be installed on a cymbal stand already in place. I'm talking about having a special platform on which a powerful mount can be fastened. Ideal options would be the LP472 or LP372. Something LARGE, NOT something dangling precariously from a flimsy bracket mounted to a cymbal stand.This item is LOUD, as has been noted in numerous reviews. Like your ears will ring if you bash on it for 10 seconds in your living room. The way the kit is placed can greatly affect how well it projects into your ears and the ears of the audience. Although I haven't tried it, sound dampening appears to be a common method for reducing noise that plenty of people seem to use.The model also has two sides. For a "whatever that's called" sound effect, one side has ridges. The elevated striking rim on the opposite side is EXACTLY the same as that on all other typical Jam blocks.This purple one and the red one, in my opinion, make a GREAT, incredibly helpful pair.

I thought the woodblock was quite sturdy and substantial when I first got it. The mallet appears to be incredibly durable and unbreakable. I explored with the sounds I could generate by striking at various points on the flat end, despite not being a true percussionist myself. I can say that this woodblock should sound fairly expert in skilled hands. If you know how to do it, there are holes to put it on a stand.

This and the more popular red block, which costs twice as much, haven't been side by side in my comparisons, but to my ears, it has a really useable tone and is well made. Although the actual hardwood (Pearl) block I also purchased has a somewhat warmer and lower tone, this one is considerably better at cutting through a loud drum kit.

These were purchased to swap out the Old Blue sandblocks in my music class. The sound they produce is enjoyed by the children, who can hold them with ease. In order to use an instrument in a sound tale, the children recently had to connect it to a word in a story. These sandstone stones were used for the word "Gruff" because "It sounds exactly like the word" in "The Three Billy Goats Gruff." It is quite stern."
