The gas logs in our double-sided fireplace looked incredibly realistic thanks to this rock wool (compared to wood-fueled fireplaces). Older homes' attics and walls were insulated with rock wool, a type of fireproof insulation. One tub of this is more than enough for a large gas log set because a little bit goes a LONG way. To ensure that your gas logs are safe to use, I advise you to make sure they are set up properly (clean burner, logs orientated appropriately, etc). (especially in vent-free installations). To allow the hot, burning gases to move through and around the rock wool, carefully separate it. Avoid caulking the cracks between the gas logs because doing so drastically alters how the logs burn and produces potentially dangerous burn byproducts (soot, carbon monoxide, etc.). Place the rock wool first with the gas logs off, then turn them on to observe how it appears and behaves (no smoke, blue-yellow flames, etc.). Use long metal kitchen/food tongs to reposition the rock wool while the gas logs are lit to achieve the desired appearance. Yes, you can do that, but exercise caution because the flames and wood are extremely hot. Please keep in mind that there is NO ONE RIGHT WAY to arrange the individual "logs" that make up a set of gas logs. They should be placed in the exact order that the manufacturer intended since doing so assures a SAFE burn with the fewest combustion byproducts. Normally, a stacking diagram and log numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) are provided. To add the rock wool, you shouldn't need to move ANY logs. The procedure is easy; simply take your time and delight in the sight of the lovely glowing embers.

Okay, a wood-burning fire in its natural state is already eye-pleasing, but with these color cones, we're talking EYE-CANDY!Okay, so when they burn over a campfire, they do emit a chemical-like scent. You won't be able to smell them when they are burning in a fireplace, though, if your chimney has a strong draft. It makes sense that they advise against cooking over them in the directions.I find it helpful to use the barbecue tongs to position them just where I want them because they are spherical and have a tendency to stray off.These cones will become a staple of my fire-burning ritual for as long as I can afford them (along with some Johnsonville brats, popularly known as meat candy, and Lightning Nuggets to help start the fire).

These logs burn and ignite as promised. I ignited with a standard cigar lighter as directed, no problems. The log started burning in 3 minutes and continued to burn well for over 2 hours. There are no offensive orders or notable sources of smoke to note. The logs are still burning after two hours, and they are now producing a lot of smoke, but they are no longer useful for heating. I heartily endorse. PS. I burned two logs at once in my metal chiminea, which I think is necessary to generate a respectable degree of heat on a chilly night.

I had read a number of the evaluations, so before agreeing or disagreeing with others, I wanted to use it myself. I've used them maybe 10 to 15 times, and they're a fantastic complement to my present collection of ceramic logs. The "fabricated fire" is now believed to be real by everyone! These logs were bigger than most, so I ordered them. The diameter of my gas fire pit in a lava rock bed is almost two feet. The logs seemed a little expensive to me, but I still bought them. Wow! These are fantastic things! They are extremely lightweight, to start. The small weight gives them an almost fragile feeling. There are 10 logs total, divided across 5 different log styles. They can be arranged however you choose. Let's face it, they appear to be phony logs when seen during the day. There is simply no getting around that. But the magic happens at night, when everyone is asleep. You agree that it looks great when I light the burner since the flames are a clear blue color. Nothing unique. Wait...after approximately 10 minutes of warming up, the flames turn yellow and the bottoms of the logs shine a lovely orange. The logs have totally warmed up and look just like a campfire blazing after 20 minutes! Devoid of the smoke! They all remark on how realistic the fire looks when I have guests around for an evening on the new patio. I would buy these logs again since I love them! Well worth the money.

These fire starter blocks are appealing to me mostly because of their value and size selection option. You choose the size and use for this very dense, compact substance that maintains shape while also being simple to separate and crumble.I combine a 2"x2" chunk with a 1/4 piece of a different fire starter square because it lights up more quickly and easily, but it does not burn as long. Nevertheless, it provides enough flame to start the brick, and once the brick is lit, it produces a large flame that is hot enough to light small logs, so there is no need for kenneling.A 2"x2" chunk of brick that was broken off of a half-brick offers me around 6 starters, and there are 2 bricks per pack, for a total of 12 starters over 5 packs. When combined with a fire starter square cut into quarter-inch slices, this is a wonderful deal for $13!If you don't want to buy another product, you'll have to wait a long for the bricks to light up, but once they are, they work wonderfully and offer the best bargain I've ever seen.Additionally, the product has the ability to be broken up into crumbs and wrapped in sawdust to contain oily paper towels, among other uses. To try it out for yourself, I believe it is worth the $13 investment.They do my job and are reasonably priced.

As I was selling my house, I got these to replace a much more expensive set. The logs are light and tightly packed. Although made of ceramic, they are not substantial. Once they are set up, they work great. It takes some time to arrange them such that they resemble actual logs in the fireplace.I initially placed a layer of tiny black lava rock over the burner to spread the flames before setting them up. I then layered the grate on top of that, followed by the logs. The gas burnt blue at first when I lit the fireplace, but after a few minutes, the logs began to glow and the fire took on a more genuine golden hue.The flaming red tint makes the logs appear more realistic, but given that they retain so much heat, it's possible that they won't endure for very long. They are unbeatable for the price, anyway.
