Best Garlic Keepers in 2020

Le Creuset Stoneware Garlic Keeper, Dune Review:

I wanted a pretty, functional garlic keeper to place on my kitchen counter so there wouldn't always be bits of garlic, garlic peel, and partly used heads of garlic around.

This container holds 2 average-sized heads of garlic. It's a pretty off-white color, fading to a very faint yellowish-tan at the base - the fade is the way that all Le Creuset ceramic is glazed, it's their trademark. The lid actually says Le Creuset on it so if you're not a fan of brand names, that may irritate. The little garlic clove embossed on the front of the jar is a nice touch.

There are little holes around the bottom of the jar for airflow and the lid does not seal tight. Currently the #1 reviewer on every garlic keeper Amazon sells is some zealot who believes that if your garlic keeper isn't terra cotta, you are a bad person and you should feel bad.

He's wrong. This glazed stoneware garlic keeper is prettier, sturdier, nicer to touch, circulates air, doesn't make the garlic moldy, and is much less prone to crack than terra cotta. Quit reading reviews and buy yourself a garlic keeper already.

Mud Pie Ceramic Garlic Storage Keeper, White Review:

We bought this garlic keeper to replace an old, downright ugly one my husband insisted on using for at least 25 years, even though it was partially broken. We love this new one because it has clean simple lines, holds several heads of garlic and is of high quality. I think it will look great in any style kitchen.

Garlic Keeper Vented Ceramic Storage Container White Stoneware with Bamboo Lid Review:

Looks great while storing garlic on my counter top! Perfect size for many bulbs. I like to remove the cloves from the bulb to maximize the amount of garlic in the jar. It's sturdy and easy to clean. If I break it, I'll definitely buy it again! (My arm goes numb from time to time and I drop things.) Found this on Beth's favorite things Amazon list.

Fox Run 3971 Garlic Keeper, Ceramic, White Review:

For once, I'm glad I DIDN'T read the reviews! It's perfect for me, except for one thing. Aside from the finer points regarding garlic keepers, (terra cotta, this color, that color, all topics HOTLY debated in these reviews...), IT'S NOT GLOSSY!!! (You can tell that in the pic that compares the size of the pot to a stick of margarine.) It will attract every fingerprint, splash, splatter and random "what-the-heck-is-THAT?" bit of kitchen grime. I'm seriously hoping that a regular application of Dawn, elbow grease and a stiff brush will keep that at bay, but I'm not sure it will. Plus, that's mondo extra work for someone with a family and/or a job. Now that I have seen it, I kind of wish I had shelled out for the terra cotta ones, they will "age" better, despite all those things, but I'm still very happy with mine. I would have SO wanted a glossy one though, that is a major disappointment, but not enough to make me ask for a return or not use it.

Another HOTLY debated topic in these reviews (which I did finally read), is the size of the opening. Where are these people getting garlic bulbs "too big" to fit through this opening, that AREN'T elephant garlic?!? Seriously! Yes, it will probably only hold 2 bulbs max, granted, but they fit through the opening just fine. You can't stick your hand into the opening for sure, but it's every bit as big as the opening of a standard drinking glass, so try your usual garlic bulb size and then decide. Me, I think folks are crazy on here! Still, I learned a lot about the finer points of how one "should" store garlic, so that was good.

All in all, not a bad little thing! And cute as anything too.

Norpro 1158 Large Garlic Baker Review:

I like using this to create roasted garlic for use on focaccia. It works well and best when you place the garlic cut side down on the bottom and then drizzle this with some olive oil. When I have not had access to this (i.e., when away), I have gotten the same effect by taking a small saucer and a bowl, and putting that in the oven. If you are interested in roasting garlic yourself but only only once or twice, I would skip this purchase. If you know real garlic lovers, this is a perfect/thoughtful gift even though it is not really needed.

Joie Terracotta Garlic Keeper, Vented Storage Container, White Review:

Some reviewers were disappointed in the small size of this item. It is perfect for me. It is for people who buy garlic bulbs one at a time, use some of it, then need a good storage device to store the rest of the bulb. If you buy bulbs in quantity, then this product is not for you.
I also remember some people saying their keeper was delivered broken. Terra Cotta can be somewhat fragile. But mine came wrapped in countless layers of bubble wrapped, then surrounded by brown paper. There was no way it would break.
And I just checked on my left over garlic bulb that I put in there two weeks ago and it looks fresh as ever.

Progressive International GK-68 Terra Cotta Garlic Keeper Review:

With a change of life style diet comes many surprises, including using fresh rather than powdered or ground garlic. But how to store it, keep it fresh, and ready for immediate use??? I did a bit of research and found the BEST way to store garlic was in a 'pot' - a Terracotta pot. (To the uninitiated, that is a simple clay pot which has not been glazed or sealed.)

I looked at a dozen different storage pots - then found this little gem. It is 100% teracotta; attractive; small enough to set on a shelf over the sink; and, big enough to hold TWO BULBS of garlic. Its best feature is IT WORKS, and very well. I have used one bulb, and added another - both are still store fresh.

This item has my highest recommendation.
