One of the few large appliances I've purchased where almost everything just worked is this one. The process of assembly was surprisingly simple and painless. Everything worked perfectly the first time I switched it on, including the garage opener, remote controls, control panel, outside panel, backup battery, and even the app. The belt's exposure bothers me, but other than that, everything is wonderful. As promised, it is relatively quiet, and it slows down shortly before it closes. The indoor control panel is great; it displays the time, temperature, and condition of the backup battery. Its motion sensor also turns on the lights.The app is surprisingly effective; unlike the majority of bespoke apps for any type of hardware, which are hastily created, this one practically adheres to the Android design guidelines and is simple to use.But here's my one quibble: even though IFTTT and Google Assistant are integrated, they absurdly want a membership. Do I need to subscribe to IFTTT in order to use it to operate my garage door opener? I believe Chamberlain needs to reevaluate the kind of product they are offering. It opens garage doors. My garage is opened and closed by it. I have many home automation gadgets, some of which have far more features. Each of them does not demand a subscription.Overall, this is an excellent product, however I must deduct one point for the ridiculous choice to lock some features behind a membership. I do not see IFTTT and Google Assistant compatibility as a premium service that you can charge for at this time, but rather as a basic requirement.

The installation of this direct drive opener was simple, and it operated my door well. However, I had an easy time because my garage door was set up so that a direct drive opener could be mounted. Actually, installing this was simpler than installing the chain drive ceiling mount opener. I did experience a few issues, which are listed below. However, before making this purchase, make sure your existing garage door system complies with the requirements listed below:First, determine if the torsion bar extends sufficiently past the bearing plate. I've included a photo of the door's bearing plate and bar. Since you just need 1.5 inches of extension, it had plenty of it (see picture).Next, verify that your torsion bar is at least three inches below the ceiling. Mine was exactly one foot and half lower.Third, make sure the drum (middle of first image) that holds the wire attached to the bottom of the door has a diameter of between 4 and 6 inches. The one in the image is 4.5" in diameter.Verify that the torsion bar is horizontal in the fourth step. My torsion bar has a tiny bend in it, as you can see in the second image, being lower in the middle than the two ends. To make the middle bearing plate horizontal, I had to move it up half an inch, which was challenging. Though it was worthwhile. The door opener will have to work considerably harder if there is even a little bend since it must use more energy to bend the torsion bar in addition to lifting the door.Fifth: The end of the torsion bar where the opener will be mounted needs to be at least nine inches away from the wall.If I don't fit any of these descriptions, you probably have a problem that is best fixed by consulting a specialist. Don't buy this opener because the second and fifth conditions are probably too expensive to fix.Although the documentation is excellent, it instructs you to carry out several actions that are unneeded when performing a test installation. You are instructed to take out the old opener first. That is not required. It is preferable to leave the other opener in place while entirely removing the bar that connects the chain drive and the door in order to ensure that your new opener functions. Press the button to open the door, and the plate that slides along the metal slid and is attached to it will move to the completely open position. Before removing the old opener, you can now continue with installation to make sure everything functions as it should. The installation of a power outlet within 6 feet of the opener is not also required. Before doing that, you might run a powerful extension cord to inspect the situation.The only two installation-related challenges I encountered were mounting the cable tension monitor and the requirement to move the center bushing up as previously mentioned. To position it properly, some dry wall needed to be removed, and shims had to be used. However, that was more frustrating than challenging.It was worth the entire day it took me to install the door opener because it is so much quieter. The premium remote, the door control, and the remote light all function properly. I did disregard the manual's advice to avoid using LED bulbs because this is a typical misunderstanding. On Amazon, you may get LED lamps that don't obstruct garage door functioning. You can locate them by searching for "Garage Door Opener A19 LED Light Bulbs."

A lot goes into selecting a Chamberlain garage door opener. The Chamberlain website lists the different models, but the descriptions are lacking, there is no easy method to compare models, the explanations of the features that are offered are insufficient, and the search option is almost useless. Examining the comments and frequently asked questions for each model on Amazon is the best approach to contrast Chamberlain openers. Additionally, there are helpful videos on YouTube that might aid in setup and installation. Don't try to access the films through the Chamberlain website; instead, go straight to YouTube.The Chamberlain C450 responds to the remote control, the hardwired wall switch, the wireless digital keypad, and the HomeLink button in my car to raise and drop the garage door as intended. I haven't tried using the MyQ app or the built-in Wi-Fi connection. It is as simple as simultaneously pressing the button on the Chamberlain remote control and the button in your car to set up the button in your car to operate the door opener if your car has HomeLink (3 buttons on the visor or surrounding the mirror and the home symbol). The wall button doesn't require programming because it is hardwired to the opener. Both remotes have already been programmed. There are about three steps involved in setting up the wireless keypad. Setting the door travel can be challenging, but watching the related YouTube video makes it easy. The maximum distance I can conveniently test is 250', and both the remote control and the button on my car function from that distance. The door is already open when I'm 250 feet away.If you have some mechanical knowledge, have the tools indicated in the owner's manual, and adhere to the written instructions in the owner's manual, installation is pretty straightforward. The accompanying line drawings are often helpful, and the language is precise and easy to understand. There is everything required to finish a typical installation. One of the rail pieces in the original kit is replaced by a long rail segment in the Eight-Foot Rail Extension Kit (7708CB), which also includes a longer chain and, oddly enough, an additional release rope and handle. The C450 employs a chain and cable system. Even though I worked slowly and had to design, construct, and install bespoke supports for the motor unit and header bracket, the removal of the old opener and full installation of the new one took me a total of 6 hours. In a few of hours, I should have the second unit installed. Although it is not very difficult, you will likely need a helper to lift and hold the component during installation.I have had several door openers, but the C450 is the loudest. The power head's motor and gearing are what are making the noise, not the chain. We would have to outlaw bicycles if chains were intrinsically noisy. Consequently, unless the internals of the power head are different, I'm not sure the belt units driven by an AC motor would be any quieter. Consideration should be given to both noise level and irritation. Although the noise level in the garage is considerable, it is tolerably low in our bedroom, which is above the garage. Since I want to know whether the door is being opened or closed, I don't want a silent opener. Though I don't think it would wake me, my wife claims that the loudness would wake her.You ask if I would purchase the Chamberlain C450 again. As a mechanical engineer, I have a gut sense that this opener's engineering and longevity may not be on par with the other 8 openers from various manufacturers I've had in previous homes based on the Chamberlain website's quality, the unit's sound, and its design elements. Having said that, it's unclear whether the other brands are any better and whether they have the same wide range as the Chamberlain. But I won't put in another Chamberlain until the first opener has operated without incident for a few months.

The opener was sent complete with all required parts, a sizable fold-out installation instruction sheet, and a well-written handbook that details how to set it up after installation. There are some difficulties hanging the opener and putting the safety beam devices because I installed it in an all-steel shop building with a high ceiling, but only if the ceiling is 14 feet inclined. The opener comes with every bolt and nut required to mount it in a typical wood-frame garage. The one thing that surprised me was that the garage door opener would only raise the door by around 18 inches when I initially turned it on. The supplementary Programming, Operation and Maintenance Manual's quick-read section contained instructions for altering the door's maximum open and closing settings. So, take my advice and study the manual's programming instructions before turning on the power. It only takes a few minutes to put everything up properly. This door opener is incredibly quiet.

Wonderfully serene in a very serene setting. drive chain was replaced. Simple to control online, and I receive emails whether they are opened or closed. I just have a PC, a wifi-only iPad, and no other mobile devices. Just one GOTCHA! though. I installed 26W LED bulbs since I failed to read the fine print about the prohibited types of lightbulbs. Outside the door, on the driveway, I could hardly even open it! The fine print (and there is a lot of it) states that using LED bulbs affects or reduces the range of the remotes, so I had to go back and look it up in the manual.

good, complying with California battery backup standards, quiet, and compatible with Chevy Homelink on-board buttons. All the parts were present and delivery was a day early. It was simple to assemble and was used to replace a Genie screw drive opener that was 30 years old. It took about 7 hours to install on a day with a high of 90 degrees, with pauses for water. Had to install a bar end mount above the door, sensors, and other items, but was able to reuse hangers for the existing motor mount with very minor modifications. Given my fastidious tendency, I probably could have completed it more quickly with assistance. This kit is nice because it costs only a few dollars more than comparable devices but includes 2 remote controls and an exterior programmable keypad (with the possibility to program "guest" numbers). A lock-out button on a wired interior wall switch allows the door to descend but not to return using remote controls. It also contains a "lights only" option (button on wall switch can still open door). The spool of wire that is provided for the sensors and interior wall switch is a little scant, and there is just enough for a 'perfect' (i.e., short) run to the sensors and wall switch, which is my only criticism. I'm fine with it because I utilized the line from an existing wall switch, but be aware that you'll need another spool of wire if you use the long route for sensors or a wall switch. Oh, and be careful not to overtighten the chain; the instructions say to do so until the lazy side hangs 1/4" beyond the bottom of the rail, but they neglect to warn that the rail may distort before you reach that level of strain, tricking you into overtightening the chain. They probably assume you have the rail laying on a flat surface, but mine was supported only by a pair of sawhorses, which caused it to bow.

When my house was built in 1992, it came with two LiftMaster 1/3 HP openers (single door, double door).Even after 26 years, the LIftMasters were still running, but they were unavoidably noisy and weren't likely to last another 26. (ditto for me).It's time for an improvement, at least for the openers.I got in touch with a well-known company offering installation and garage door openers services around the country. It took some tenacious prodding to get a preliminary estimate for the installation of a single WiFi opener over the phone from a representative: $700 (and higher).It's time to visit Amazon!I bought a Chamberlain B503 garage door opener. I intended to mount this to the single door. If you were successful in your endeavor, buy a B550 with MyQ and use it as the B503's hub.I was a little nervous going into this project because I had never changed an opener before. It didn't help that I was 79 years old either!I was able to use pre-existing ceiling supports and door fittings because this was a replacement rather than a new installation.NET: Installed without issues, without the need for videos, and without help from anybody else. The product documentation was thorough and easy to read. All necessary parts, sufficient for numerous installations, were provided. The door travel's final modifications were straightforward.Next move!For a B550, go back to Amazon. MyQ didn't appeal to me on a practical level, but I enjoy tinkering with technology, and the B550 came with a wireless keypad that could be installed outside.Since I wasn't starting from a position of complete ignorance, the B550 installation was even simpler than the B503 installation. The MyQ setup's ease of use made me very happy. The B550 and B503 worked nicely together, and I can open and close my garage doors from anywhere in the world using the MyQ app on my El Cheapo Tracfone (why would I want to do that?).NET: Even simpler to install than the B503 model.Possible drawback for some: From what I gather, Chamberlain offers IFTTT-based Alexa integration. This program is apparently subscription-based and costs $1 per month.Alexa resides in my garage, my car, and every area of my house (excluding the bathrooms because my wife is particular about certain things). I'm not sure why I require Alexa to manipulate my garage doors, though. She already has enough work regulating my home's lighting and answering my unnecessary questions.On the basis of basic principles, I would also tell Chamberlain that I will never pay for a subscription-based service. Imagine if Jeff demanded 10 cents each time I proposed to Alexa! Bummer. Because it prioritizes the consumer experience above all else, Amazon is king. Chamberlain's subscription-based Alexa support is widely derided for being pitiful.I'll give smart products a pass if they can't connect to Alexa MOL directly (without using IFTTT). The efforts of LIFX, TP-Link, and Philips Hue have successfully automated my house; they all have positive working relationships with Alexa.OVERALL VERDICT: Chamberlain openers are a fantastic option! (However, if you truly require them to communicate with Alexa, you might not; I don't.)Since both devices were used in the installation, this review is listed under both the B503 and B550.

It took roughly two hours to install. The integrated smart garage feature (Aladdin) requires a little initial setup time, but no more than 20 minutes. I chose this opener because of this functionality. I feel better knowing we didn't forget to shut it when we left or at night. You can establish guidelines like the door must be closed after X minutes of being open or must be open at a specific time. You may use your phone to open and close the door, receive alerts when it does so, allow others to do the same, check the history of when the door has opened and closed, and many other things. Given that this feature is included and that it costs about the same as many other openers, buying it is a no-brainer.Additionally includes the keypad that you can set up outside your property.
