First off, the mattress arrived in perfect shape; neither the box nor the contents were harmed (thanks to the seller and UPS).I took my mattress out of the box the day I got it, wrapped it in plastic, and kept it rolled up. I quickly checked the plastic wrap and the mattress, and I could see that neither had been harmed. The following morning, I unrolled my mattress on the floor and deflated the air mattress I had just bought to replace the previous one. I took the plastic wrap off. As the coils gradually expand after the initial cut in the plastic, you can hear the air pouring in. The mattress expanded more quickly as I made the hole bigger. The mattress was at its full height (8") by the time I finished removing the plastic, so I left it there on the floor and continued working.That evening, when I got home, I measured the mattress once more and made sure it had extended all the way to eight inches. I had intended to take off the cover, wash it at the laundromat, and then cover the mattress with a waterproof bed insect protective cover. Despite the cover being removable, the plastic tabs that create the surface divots pass through through to the mattress' underside and through the cover. I reconsidered my strategy. I placed the mattress and cover in a recently bought and washed mattress protector before covering it with some clean sheets because the cover is clean and doesn't smell. Although it took some time to arrive, the wait was worthwhile. I normally sleep on an Asian-style platform bed since, after spending a few years in Asia, I realized how bad western beds are for my back. My wife advised we get this as a stop-gap because my king size platform is currently in storage due to a recent move. Along with that, I also want a bed that my infant could use without worrying about him slipping out (he is only 11 months). The ideal bed was this one. It does take a few days for the bed to regain its full thickness; it is vacuum-sealed when it is delivered, so it is somewhat compressed when you unpack it, as some other reviews have noted. We placed a tiny foam pad underneath it because we have wood flooring, and it works well. The young child enjoys having a good night's sleep every night. The king size that we bought was little off in size, but it was still large enough for the three of us, with plenty to spare. Recommended!!!

It arrived in a package that it most definitely won't ever open again. When you receive it, it is severely compressed. There is no folding of the mattress; it is rolled up from end to end. I removed it and spread it out on the ground. It had expanded after a few hours, so I put it on a futon and it was fine. But when I went in the following morning, it was finished filled out. IT IS DEEP! Simply a sturdy mattress of 10 inches. This is a wonderful change after spending years sitting on a four-inch mattress and feeling the frame's bars on our behinds.Its smell has been mentioned in several reviews, and it definitely has a smell. It is clearly audible. I can describe the fragrance to you EXACTLY. It has the aroma of a recently painted space. Fresh paint is what you can smell as soon as you enter the space.Edit: The smell appears to be fully gone after a month. Although it would have cost me the same and required more labor, I almost just bought some quilt batting to layer and put together. It just arrived in the mail and it's perfect! It's a touch large and drapes over the edges, but I don't think that will be a problem. It shields the kids from the board's (uh, bed's) edges.As I'm lying in it writing this, I believe I'm already in love. I still need to persuade my wife that this is the best course of action. I was unaware that the term "full" for this shikibuton did not refer to a standard, 54-inch broad size. I may have made a mistake in assuming, but I didn't check the description for the dimensions until after I had already received the item. I contacted the seller since it's too small for what I need, and they offered to give me a larger size right away. Even the color I choose was available! As a college student who cannot afford a new queen size shikibuton, I greatly appreciate that.I haven't slept on it, but the cover has a very, very pleasant feel to it. I just received it today, and they need about 3 days to expand, but I think it'll be great once it's fully fluffed.
