I frequently experience the need to consume some fruit cake throughout the fall season of the year. I recently picked up a two-pound sampler pack of standard and dark Claxton Fruit Cake on Amazon for a great deal. This sampler pack was the ideal size in my opinion. There were two packages of one pound each. There was an ordinary cake and a black cake.Although they were both incredibly filling and tasty, my favorite was the black fruit cake. Ahhh. It brings me back. Every Christmas, my mother cooked a "from scratch fruitcake." Numerous containers of candied fruit, raisins, various types of nuts, etc. She then wrapped the cheesecloth in it after soaking it in a spirit to keep it moist for weeks. I couldn't afford all the components when I got married. I was found, Claxton. Fruitcake was my favorite dessert at the time, so it was the ideal portion size to give me "the flavor of home."I'm a senior citizen now, confined to my home. Due of my arthritis, I was unable to stir that batter. Hello! Again, Claxton comes to the rescue.I got these this morning, September 28, 2017. I can't for the life of me locate an expiration date, but it is VERY moist and fresh. well-wrapped and snugly packed. With relatively little cake batter, it is packed with candied fruit, raisins, and nuts. YEA!! Although I wish I still had all of my teeth, I am getting along just fine...ha ha ha ha. Fruits including pineapple, cherries, raisins, walnuts, and pecans make up the majority of the cake, which is also soaked in 120 proof brandy and delicately sweetened with honey.There are 8 servings in the 16 oz. (1 lb) amount. A 2-ounce portion has 220 calories and 80 fat calories. I hope it illustrates how dense this fruitcake is. It is filled with treats. Personally, I think it's a bit expensive for the quantity, but if you can enjoy every bite, it's worth it.By the way, I uploaded a picture of the 1-pound fruitcake in my hand so you wouldn't be taken aback when you order and receive it.Would I repurchase it? not right away.
