A brief review: It does what I need it to, albeit I wish it could hold more ink and that the end wasn't red.Long analysis: Like everyone else, I purchased this converter for these purposes. to save money by using ink from ink bottles for fountain pens. The converter fits my Lamy Safari flawlessly because that is how it was intended to. The ink capacity isn't very large, and it can be difficult to fill it from an ink jar or pot. I discover that using a syringe makes it much simpler to fill it completely. If you don't, you'll have to contend with a bubble that occupies 1/4 of the space and is pretty bothersome. The red finish is a cosmetic issue for me. It doesn't match my pen, but because you can't see that section while it's inside your pen, I assume it doesn't really matter. I appreciate the clear viewing glass, and I haven't experienced any staining issues. Cleaning is straightforward; if I want to swap colors, I pour water into it with an ink syringe. For comparison, I snapped a photo of it next to an empty throwaway cartridge, and I'm pretty sure it carries less ink. That's pretty lame, but this man will have to do if I want to spare the world from my fair share of disposable plastic cartridges taking up space in landfills.

The nib has the weight and writing quality of a heavier pen. I like employing one. Just be aware that you absolutely must keep the cap on when you aren't writing if you've never used one before. It requires some scratching to reactivate the nib if the ink dries in it. Avoid applying pressure to the nib because doing so could widen the groove where the ink flows and affect how the ink flows. However, given the price, you can afford to lose one or two while adjusting.

Using either the converter or the cartridges, the loading instructions are relatively simple to follow. While using cartridges, you can switch the converter, and vice versa. This pen looks lovely and is clearly well-made. The weight and dimensions are ideal for me. The medium nib writes well and responds to little adjustments in how I hold the pen. In other words, I can use it for both my daily writing and meticulous hand lettering jobs (such addressing wedding invites, etc.). when writing. The pen will occasionally stop working altogether after skipping a word in the middle. "Operator error" doesn't appear to be the issue. When the ink cartridge has plenty of ink and I have taken care to store the pen vertically, it still happens to me. In the middle of meetings, I find myself asking for a borrowed pen, and I waste far too many pricey envelopes. This pen has been in my possession for around 8 months, however for the majority of that time it has been idle in my bottom desk drawer. I wanted to love this pen so badly, but in the end it was unreliable.Updated 1/2/2018: Michael Dryden contacted me shortly after I published the initial review and offered to send me a replacement pen or a refund of my money. Your pen probably had a minor flaw, but we've since updated and revised our collection, he continued. The new pen functions flawlessly and reliably. Michael Dryden and Dryden pens provided me with excellent customer service, and I could not be more pleased. I'll place another order with them.

None of the more expensive pens I've owned can match this one. This pen writes like butter and is highly dependable. It never leaks and looks really gorgeous in this charcoal black. Did I mention that it slides over paper like butter? I truly can't express enough what an amazing pen this is. However, perhaps the images below will be a little helpful. You aren't particularly concerned if you lose it at this price point (except perhaps you are so finicky that you worry about losing so fine a nib). I never see the benefit of investing in more expensive pens. This pen is indispensable. But if I had one complaint, it would have to be about the weight (and this is truly a silly "but"). The pen is strong and lightweight. Not a work of art, but a daily workhorse (though, golly, it is beautiful). This "but," as I mentioned, is a stretch because this pen is wonderful.Note: Although not as expensive as the occasionally eye-popping prices for fountain pens, I have had pens that were more expensive. Some could argue that since I haven't covered the entire range, I can't really "benchmark" how well this pen performs in comparison to more expensive models. True, but in the aggregate, this pen is remarkable. If you haven't used this pen to get a sense of how a top-notch writing implement feels, don't spend more money on one.

The fountain pen has a nice nib, so you'll need good ink if you intend to use it. My advice to everybody who has ever used a fountain pen. Do not buy cheap ink or cut corners. A pen's ability to last depends on its ink. The pens, in my opinion, are weighted correctly, and the writing is nicely fluid.

Apart from the fact that it was labeled by Jinhao, I didn't really have great expectations for this ink. She's never used a fountain pen before, so I thought it would be easier for her to start out with cartridges before introducing her to bottled ink. I bought her a purple Jinhao FP because I thought she'd enjoy purple ink and I wanted her to have lots of it, so I bought her this to go with her pen.Despite the fact that I only use bottled inks, she demanded I keep one of the cartridge packs. I refused, but after she persisted long enough, I gave in. I used one of my own Jinhao pens and was immediately taken aback by how fluid the ink is, how beautiful the violet color is, and how it appears to be a much, much more costly ink.The cartridge fits practically all of my other fountain pens and is international sized. There is a lot of ink within. Daily, I use it to write. When I picked up the pen/ink again after a two-week absence, it only required a small press of the cartridge. The cartridge was ready to use after the squeeze to restart the flow because it hadn't dried out while I was away. incredibly impressedI must admit that I'm addicted. If Jinhao inks are even remotely as wonderful as these, I'll use them again without a doubt. Perhaps there is Jinhao ink in a bottle somewhere?
