Are you like me and find that while water bubbles don't annoy you, water that sputters and splashes does?This breeding box's directions call for noisy, intrusive sputtering, so I ask because of that. It sputters in an odd way for reasons I don't fully understand, but it was driving me mad. I therefore did as I said.You'll see two components, Intake Tube (9) and Discharge Cap, in the instructions (8). If the sputtering noise bothers you as much as it did me, perform the following after assembling the breeding box according to the instructions. Discard the discharge cap. Insert a length of airline tubing about three inches long into the top of the intake tube, close to where the discharge cap would typically be attached. Just give it enough to keep it safe. Put the breeding box's water to the airline tubing's opposite end. Instead of sputtering, you'll experience bubbling, which is much more pleasant in my opinion.This little box is nice aside from that. I use it as a semi-filter that is also used to store shrimp and moss.By the way, when you perform the aforementioned patch, watch out for using airline tubing that is too lengthy. If the water is forced to climb the U-turn of the intake tube for too long, it will only function as an airpump and not draw water from the main tank in. If this occurs and you are unaware of it, it could be quite detrimental. For instance, if your house is chilly and your tank is warm, the temperature will drop significantly since the pump won't transfer the warm water from the main tank into the breeding box. Not good. Additionally, dealing with just the water volume of the box as opposed to the water volume of the entire tank is undesirable. Therefore, if you install this breeder box on a 10 or 20 gallon tank wrong and it simply brings air in, you will only get the box's tiny water quality. Therefore, ensure that water enters the box and that water also flows out of the box through the overflow (it should at least drip constantly).

Outstanding building with excellent materials. This product has gone through two batches. Because I didn't sure how much flow to use on the first one, I lost every single egg. It would have been beneficial to have instructions. The flow rate was accurate for the second batch.

This breeder box's design is highly appealing to me. In anticipation of my platys giving birth, I purchased this box, and today I discovered the first fry. I was able to transfer the young fry into the breeder box safely because the box was quite simple to put together.The fry was swimming around the box slowly for about an hour when it suddenly slipped between the slits! The unfortunate fry was stranded outside and in full view of the other platys at first, so I initially believed I was seeing things. I was able to scoop the fry into a cup and put it back into the box after some quick scrambling, but it must have remembered how to escape since it slipped out again. Therefore, very little fry CAN squeeze through the slits.In the end, I was able to seal the fry inside the box while still allowing water to easily flow into it by using some old pantyhose that I had discovered and ripped up.The short version is that extremely small fry CAN and WILL slip through the slits, so you should think about covering the box with a thin mesh material to prevent this from happening. In any case, the style is fantastic!

Though it wasn't the original idea, it came in wonderful shape and just in time for my platy to give birth. The platie had been attacked by another fish, so I had originally placed her there to give her fins some time to heal. However, the next day, she gave birth.For my 40 gallon tank, I purchased a medium breeder box, and it works nicely for two little fish. I recently purchased the large because I have several pregnant fish and it was a great success. It's amazing to watch the small fry safe and sound from all the big terrible villains in my tank as I've never had a breader box before.The box's cover should have been more firmly and better positioned on the box, in my opinion.I've also read that cleaning the box of waste and uneaten food using a turkey baster is an excellent idea. Mines have arrived, which is wonderful, though I fear platies are about to overrun my tank.

Make sure you put all the pregnant fishes into the incubator! Many people are easy miss some pregnant fishes. In fact, the ventilating hole of the incubator is not visible by the naked eye, and the small fish cannot run out.

It is effective. It hangs securely against the wall without tumbling. In my opinion, it's a little too close to the tank, smaller fish like to attempt to get caught in it, and I can't seem to prevent air from entering under the handles and forming pockets while submerged.The plastic is thin, easily breaks by accident, and is useless for cherry shrimp (which was why I bought it). It would likely function much better if used as a temporary box for mollies, guppies, or platies or as an isolation box, though.

Applied this to help the fry I saved from my main tank after one of my platies gave birth to grow larger. I didn't get to utilize the internal divider tray because I didn't realize it until after the event, but I checked, and it fit just well.The smaller size suited perfectly while still providing enough room around the sides and back to feed the adults and get into the tank, if necessary. I have a tall five gallon tank with about 11" across the front.After about three weeks of having 10 babies in the hatchery box, a local teacher adopted them all. I believe they could have easily continued for a few more weeks. The numerous apertures along the hatchery's edges provide for a proper interchange of water with the main tank, keeping it relatively clean.I would advise putting some hornwort or another fluffy plant in the transparent box for the fry to hide in so they won't feel so anxious.
