I hoped this would work for small logs or nubs of partially burned logs that had fallen because the tool I use to grab and rearrange logs in my fireplace is heavy and doesn't work well on such. Although it is less heavy, stretches well, and does a decent job of grasping those problematic bits, I find it difficult to release them, which disappoints me. Depending on what you wish to do, the tool's highly curved end can be both an aid and a hindrance. Since I cut a lot of my own wood, there are pieces of every size. A maple tree that produced numerous branch logs between 3 and 4" in diameter was the most recent victim here. These are easily held in place by this tool, but once I've positioned them, I can't get the tool to open wide enough to quickly release them. In the end, I move other stuff. These, in my opinion, function better with standard-sized split logs than with little, rounded ones.
