This digital device is nice. It is accurate and comes with both a flat back and a lug back, which is excellent. It also includes several stem tips, which is a lovely addition. As the stem is compressed, there is a discernible variation in pressure because the spring tension on the stem is not linear. The flexibility to set it and then zero it is something I truly like. Yes, you can turn the dial to zero on analog indicators, but this is plain simpler. This tool serves my needs and I use it for woodworking. Like the Grizzly analogue unit, I wish it was packaged in a kit with a magnetic base. Perhaps a kit is there, but I didn't look hard enough. This unit's absence of an LED light is its lone drawback, in my opinion. It can be challenging to read the readout clearly in low-light shop environments. Since I've spent a lot of time working with electronics, I might attempt adding a microled light to it in the future. The device is great, and I do suggest it. You can afford to bang it about the store, and it functions really well for the price. So what if it breaks, just get another one. I wouldn't dare use one of those $400 units if I owned one, so this one is perfect for me.

Despite being a really beautiful instrument, the English handbook is inadequate. The phrases and vocabulary don't translate well because the book was written by a non-native English speaker. Also, the near likelihood that you'll need to loosen the socket cap screw (SCS) in the shank so that the four opposing screws for zeroing the head's eccentricity ("concentricity") work is left out of the instructions for zeroing runout (DO NOT OVER-TORQUE). (Had to phone the manufacturer to ensure that I wouldn't harm the unit.) The factory recommends a torque of 6 N-m, or 4.4 ft-lbs, on the shank SCS. It's probably less, in my opinion. Back off each of the four opposing set screws after retorquing the shank SCS, then GINGERLY zero the runout. Instead of moving the head with the set screws, move it in relation to the shank with your hand. Only tighten the set screws after making your final adjustment, or you'll spend an hour fiddling with the runout. During this runout-zeroing process, the head is particularly finicky; as the set screws are tightened, it moves more than you may anticipate. As a result, my first session went longer than 30 minutes as I got used to it. Once you have the settings just right, it's a very quick and precise way to locate edges and corners in 2D and 3D, respectively. A enormous 8mm ball, which is on the end of the lengthy probe, should be noted. Due to the trigonometry of how the head activates the dial indicator, this is important. The geometry that makes this a quick and accurate 3D taster also prevents it from performing that kind of probing, which is the point I'm trying to make here: don't expect to reach deep into a tight hole to discover an edge.
