What I paid for, I got. It functions as intended. In addition to the plug-in socket in the USA type, the two USB charging ports were quite useful. I was able to simultaneously charge two smartphones and my laptop. I was also able to charge my camera because my laptop has a USB connector for charging devices.The adaptor is worthless now that I'm back in the United States. If the Australia/New Zealand fixed spades weren't "fixed," it would be an added bonus. If they were "swiveled" types, I could still use the adapter's USB ports for charging when I was back in the USA. A global "straight" earth surface would be required (or be removable). Another possibility is that the power strips I saw in New Zealand had recessed round receptacles, which this adapter's square design would make impossible to fit into.

In May 2019, I embarked on my very first cruise with no prior experience. I found this surge protector while I was on the carnival dream, which, according to Google, only had one 110v outlet. We adore this powerful tool. Our home is very old and has few electrical outlets, particularly in the bathroom. We've maintained the USB wall outlet extender there because there are many things/devices that need to be plugged in there. Additionally, it features a pretty helpful nightlight, so you can stop turning on the bathroom light at odd hours. First of all, this only plugs into the upper half of your outlet; the bottom of the adaptor has a plastic locating pin that fits into the ground slot on the lower half. Given that both halves of the receptacle are connected, it doesn't really matter that it is getting all of its power from the upper half. If you use it on a socket where one half is controlled by a switch, it starts to cause problems. Power to the adapter and everything put into it will be turned on and off if the top part is switch-controlled. It shouldn't be an issue if the bottom half is switch-controlled.Second, the square "decora" style receptacle (which we have) prevents you from using the adapter's center screw to secure it to the receptacle; instead, the terminals hold the adapter in place. In order to prevent the adaptor from coming out of the receptacle when you disconnect something, you must hang onto it. This is a fantastic socket to add to a heavily utilized wall outlet. I manually installed it in the bathroom outlet above the counter because I frequently use that outlet (toothbrush, hair dryer, hair styling tools, phone charger, etc). I would give it five stars if the snugness were rectified, but it hasn't actually presented an issue; it's just how I like it. This is a decent approach, but it has a drawback that makes it less than ideal for my purpose. Yes, it was possible to infer from the photographs that this would be a problem, but when you plug this in, you lose one of your two wall outlets, and due to the way it's made, you can't just plug it into the lower outlet to reach the upper one.The manufacturer answered that they were "confused" by the comments because, while the plate covers the duplex outlet, there are three outlets at the end of the extension cord, which was brought up by another reviewer. This, they claimed, signified you were genuinely getting a release.Wait a minute. Let me outline the issue: The "additional" outlets on the extension cord aren't where I need them when I lose the second outlet at the wall. The light closest to the wall socket needs to be plugged in, and for the second lamp, I'll need to run the extension cord that comes with it behind a piece of furniture and along the wall. I want to avoid putting a regular extension cable plug on the wall, but if I have to run a lamp chord plus an extension cord to get to the now-distant socket—assuming the lamp wire is even long enough—it defeats the entire purpose of the streamlined outlet.Since I couldn't use it for my main purpose, I'm now using it as a straightforward flat plug extension cord. However, the 9' cord is considerably too lengthy for that usage, so I had to dress it in a way that concealed the length.The addition of a knockout that could be removed for those of us who need to use the second outlet would be a straightforward fix that would just slightly increase the production cost. The elegant socket's aesthetic wouldn't be substantially harmed, and it would become much more versatile, but this could need shifting the plug from the top to the bottom position so the knockout wouldn't interfere with the wiring.Apart from that, it's a good product for the specific use that its designers had in mind when they created it.

Most of the time, I'm thrilled with Amazon Basics products. Despite being reasonably priced, they have good quality. Even though I'm happy I bought it, I'm not quite satisfied. No matter whatever outlet I put it in, this has a tendency to slowly emerge and tilt forward.I purchased this mainly for the USB ports, which I use to charge my JUUL. They are perfect for that, however because the charger must be inserted upside down, nothing can be connected into the standard outlets while they are in use because they are obstructed. Nothing major, though. The greatest issue is that this leans down and shuts off electricity approximately an hour after something is plugged in. Therefore, anything that has a plug loses power and needs to be moved back into position. I'm not sure if anyone else is, but I find it moderately bothersome. but not insurmountable.
