If you are unsure about whether or not a particular junction box is legal, you should consult with a qualified electrician.

Can I put lights and receptacles on the same circuit?

Yes, you can put lights and receptacles on the same circuit. However, you will need to use a larger wire size to accommodate the additional load. You will also need to use a larger circuit breaker to protect the circuit.

Can you put 12 gauge wire on a 15 amp circuit?

You can put 12 gauge wire on a 15 amp circuit, but it is not recommended. The wire is not thick enough to handle the current and could overheat.

How do I know what size electrical box I need?

There are a few things to consider when determining what size electrical box you need. The first is the number of wires that will be entering the box. More wires require a larger box. The second is the size of the wires. Wires that are larger in diameter also require a larger box. The last thing to consider is the length of the wires. Wires that are longer also require a larger box.

BUD Industries NBF-32016 Plastic ABS NEMA Economy Box - Electrical Box for Indoor Uses - Industrial Box in Light Grey Finish with Solid Door Construction. Conduit and Fittings Review:

Very happy with my purchase; excellent shipping and packaging. Very good box, designated for indoor usage, but still quite tightly packed. I'll be using it as a junction box and drilling the necessary holes to add cable glands so that Cat6 can be fed through it and into a single attic exit to allow for a security camera system to enter the house. It ought to be ideal for my needs. Although it appears to be made of high-quality plastic, holes should be easy to cut in plastic. For the exit out of the bottom of the box, I will use a larger portion of pvc. Excellent box and service.

SOCKiTBOX – The Original Weatherproof Connection Box – Indoor & Outdoor Electrical Power Cord Enclosure for Timers, Extension Cables, Transformers, Power Strips, Lights, Tools & More – Medium – Black Review:

Our issue was that we required a solution to connect a pool pump's huge GFC connector to a timer-controlled outside socket on our house 40 feet away. We needed a means to attach the plug to a grounded extension wire that was waterproof—both against rain and pool splashes. The size and grass green tint of this solution make it comparatively unnoticeable. To reduce the chance that water may enter the box, it combines an overhang on the lid with electric cord guides and rubberized seals. Inside the box, the cord and GFC plug are attached, and the lid simply seals on top. Even after enduring (pun intended) numerous thunderstorms and pouring rain, we have not have any problems with water entering, despite the fact that we do have earwig bugs that seem to appreciate the shade in the box. It's a straightforward answer, but it works nicely. Upon consideration, we probably should have chosen the smaller size, but we are now using the greater capacity for several outdoor wires and think this would work well for holiday outdoor decorations. Please mark this review as helpful if it was in order to aid others in finding it. Although I'd appreciate any constructive criticism on how it may be made more beneficial for you and others, feel free to flag it as not helpful if it wasn't. Please feel free to inquire about anything else not covered here.Regards, Mike

Heavy Duty Weather Proof Multi Purpose Enclosure Amphenol Broadband 9 x 9 x 4 (Interior approx. 8 x 8 x 3-1/2) Review:

This box was the ideal size for my needs, despite the fact that it is constructed of lighter/softer material than I had anticipated. I like how there are no holes in the bottom, which makes it possible to feed existing cables through without having to cut or remove cable ends, etc. With this box, I was able to replace one that wasn't as waterproof without having to unplug anything. I think it'll be fine, even though it's very flimsy, because it's not in a place where people would be bumping or running into it (after tearing the old box apart to get the cables out). For a project I'm working on in the future, I intend to get another one.

Safety Innovations Twin Door Outlet Cover Box for Babyproofing Outlets - More Interior Space for Extra Large Electrical Plugs and Adapters - Easy to Install - Easy to Use, (1-Pack) Review:

Some background informationIt seems that home builders in the Seattle region don't consider air conditioners to be necessary...I completely disagree! We made the decision to purchase a window unit rather than perish in the heat. Get a huge one, but you'll need to build a 220V outlet. Instead of doing that and giving my landlord a couple hundred dollars as a gift, we chose the largest that plugs into a regular socket. New issue: although though I can connect it into any household outlet, it would be wise to use one wired for 20 amps. The closest 20amp plug is in the kitchen, but I want the AC in the living room. An enormous 10/3 extension cable was neatly placed down the wall behind some furniture and plugged in out of the way next to the garbage can, solving the issue. Sounds fantastic, right? No, my hyperactive children and forgetful husband frequently push the garbage can against the plugged-in wire. The wire is enormous and definitely larger than I need, but bigger is better, right? After knocking the wire, which is too strong to bend, and splitting a couple outlets...I made the decision that I wanted an outlet cover similar to the unsightly gray items I had outside my home. I learned that clear ones are available and was about to purchase one until I discovered this clever invention. It resembles the standard child-proof coverings but is bigger to fit my absurdly long extension chord. Even though it wasn't eligible for Prime and shipping was required, it was still reasonably priced. It came fairly promptly, and I installed it right away. You can use it with normal outlets or the Decora plates because it comes with 2 plates (unlike a lot of other covers). Replace your old cover with the one that is included after unscrewing it. Also included are fresh screws!I adore this item — it isn't overly ugly and it accommodates the long extension cord and another charging block (see my picture posted). Simple enough for an adult to open, yet problematic for a child (although I am not using it for this purpose). It looks nicer next to my garbage can and there is no longer any cable bumping. Excellent, excellent, excellent!

Reliance Controls PB50 50-Amp (CS6375) NEMA 3R Power Inlet Box Review:

I appreciate that this box has a flip lid and waterproof foam inside. The Generac model I was considering requires a separate purchase of one for $23, really? There are, however, a few minor problems I can notice. The weight of the cord may cause tension depending on how the plug fits into the box. I have a large 50 amp cord. In order to lessen the strain on the outlet, I will install a hook in the wall below where the cord can be tied off. Second, as has been mentioned by others, it is a little difficult to fit the 6 gauge wires inside and fasten the cover. Overall, I'm satisfied with it and I hope it lasts for a long time.

How many receptacles can be on a 20 amp circuit?

In the United States, the National Electrical Code (NEC) dictates how many receptacles can be on a 20 amp circuit. The NEC is clear that 14 AWG (American Wire Gauge) copper wire is only rated for 15 amps, therefore, a 20 amp circuit must have 12 AWG copper wire.
