I was installing a new fence wire around our new house and I needed a new wire as I left the old wire in the ground at my old house. When I installed that petsafe unit I used the stick 22g wire and that listed about 4 years before I had to replace it.... Knowing this I wanted a better wire so I wouldn't be reinstalling a new wire every couple years. So I went with the 16g wire and was very happy with the quality when it arrived.

I would have liked a thicker wire yet but anything thicker then this wouldn't fit in the crack in my concrete driveway and I didn't want to cut a new groove in the driveway.

I rented a gas powered tool from the hardware store that dredged the groove in the ground and also placed the wire in the bottom. It cost me 50 bucks for 4hours but was so worth it as it took about 10 min to go around my 1/3 arce lot. Took longer to glue the wire in the groove in the concrete.

I did create two zones around my house with one giant loop of wire....u just need to bring it in closer the house on the sides of your house...this creates a backyard and front yard zone. My dog can go from back to front or front the back oy through my garage door...this way I can keep him just in the back of that's what I want. I also didn't take the wire all the way to the road as my dog is 120lb beast that people get scared of when he runs down there when there walking by....this way he stops a good 10-15ft before sidewalk/road.....

Striping the wire was good and they do have a nice thick insulation on the solid copper core wire. It plugged into my petsafe base unit with out any issues. Because its solid core copper wire and 16g there is very little resistance in the 500ft wire. It does make it hard to twist the wire together to cancel the signal out. Luckily I only had to for about 15ft where the wire came into my basement to the base station. This way the dog wouldn't get shocked if he went by the base station in the house. I found that keeping one leg longer and then wrapping that linger leg around the shorter leg was easiest way to twist the wires together.

I would buy this wire again for any in ground wire needs I had. I also recommended this wire to about a dozen people now and they all have had similar experiences as myself...one friend even did 5 acres of yard without any issues....

Wife wants some lights installed around the house and some trees and I will be buying this wire to install those low voltage lights also...

PetSafe RFA-67 6 Volt Replacement Batteries Review:

We have 2 Pugs, 6 & 2 years old, that get plenty of exercise chasing various vehicles and strolling passerbys on the road in our rural development. All within the confines of our hidden fence. When we purchased the 2 year olds receiver 20 months ago the collar and receiver were somwhat different from the original. The original receiver (Hidden Fence) has 2-CR2023 watch batteries that can be purchased any where. The new Pet Safe collar takes the RFA-67(modular) battery designed to be water proof. I encountered numerous problems with replacement batteries and always assumed the batteries received were dead or very near dead upon receipt. Purchases made from Amazon and various retailers, Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply, and various hardware stores seemed to have the same problem. The low battery warning light would not clear or within short order reappear. This seems to be a common problem as witnessed in reviews from 3 to 1 Star reviews. I finally called Pet Safe customer service and received information I want to share since it's not covered in the manual.
1) Remove old battery. 2) Press and hold the correction level setting button for 30 seconds. 3) Insert new battery, ensuring proper alignment and tightening. 4) Press the correction button again and the collar red light will blink the number of you corretion level setting. The low battery blinking red light will stop and your good to go. Amazon has the best price I've found for the RFA-67 batteries. We love our Pugs, Zeus and Apollo and trust their outdoor antics to Pet Safe.

This product works awesome. My dog kept running out of my yard onto the highway and I always had to keep him tied up in the yard. I have an Akita, and he's at about 110 lbs at just under a year old. I ended up using 6 gauge wire I bought locally because of my northern climate and the amount of property I have. I roped the wire around about 2.5 acres of land, and after a bit of fiddling with it, I figured out my problem with my wire sautering. I'm happy to say my dog doesn't leave the yard anymore and has the freedom to run. I initially had the collar set on it's 2nd level setting and found that for my dog's size and stubborn personality it wasn't strong enough. 3 was the perfect setting for him. I walked him around the property on a leash for about a week just within the perimeter of the fence- there is a beeping noise if he gets too close warning him of the impending shock. It didn't take him long to learn where he can and cannot go, and now he doesn't even venture near where the fencing lies.
Highly recommended, however I gave it 4 starts because of the inadequacy of the included wire. I had to spend an extra $140 on good quality, thick wire.

I bought the PetSafe system in May 2011. The collar failed in 2016. I am unsure why it failed. Near six years of use at a cost of about around $22 a year isn't bad considering we were able to take this system with us wherever we have travelled. You have to replace the batteries every 30 days. That is a cost of about $8-10 every two months because it comes in a two-pack. This specific package was the same price as others but included two batteries, which is why we bought it. The color is waterproof our dog wears it at all times and we haven't had a problem with him getting sores or callouses on his neck from the collar.
