I purchased a screen door with a built-in PetSafe dogie door in it years ago. The plastic dogie flap did not last very long (puppy kept pulling it off and chewed it up) (puppy kept pulling it off and chewed it up). I looked into purchasing a replacement flap from PetSafe, but they wanted a lot of money for it (I think it was around $80 at the time, but perhaps I'm not remembering this correctly). Since then I've been making my own flaps from plastic stair runner material, which doesn't cost much, but doesn't work very well or last very long. This past Fall we got a new puppy so I researched the replacement PetSafe flap on Amazon and saw it was around $30, which is still a lot of money for plastic a "mud flap", but was much better than paying $80. Installing the new flap is not easy to do as my 13 year old door doesn't come apart, but with enough persistence I was able to push the flap into place with a wide flat-blade screwdriver. It seals well and hopefully will last a few years.

Strong and well-made. Weather protection can be achieved with a two flap system. I have 3 Siberian Huskies, weighing 50 pounds at 9 months, 70 pounds at 4 years, and 45 pounds at 14 years. They do really well with this size. I wanted to replace a single flap system from PetSafe that had a 6" wall cut through. I also purchased the kit for wall extension. I spent an hour on the installation altogether. Although the supplied directions are simple to follow, do do so carefully. When cutting through the screws, use a hacksaw with a sharp blade and a vice grip that is firmly mounted. It is crucial to mount the inside and outer frames together as a result. Although the provided template and instructions are thorough, I didn't need to cut through the wall. Finally, the bottom of the two flaps have magnetic latches that work well to keep the flaps in place. I am utterly pleased with this purchase.

It has so far performed flawlessly. She is unable to grasp the plastic, and chewing on the aluminum is unpleasant. This is what I did for both flaps, and they are now functional. Even with only around 8" of metal on the bottom, the flaps still swing and "lock" in place "well with the magnets into position. Since they would be rather smooth as she passed in and out, I utilized rivets. Although the door's screw plate is awful, it is possible to put the screws in and modify the door so that it would operate with the magnets.

We took a shot on this one for our older golden retriever. The only drawback was the training of the dog to use it. In reality, it took only a few days to get him fully autonomous. I think he had figured it out much earlier, but pretended not to do he could keep receiving the treats.He also wouldn't do it on his own for a couple days. He would go to the door and wait to go in our out until we told him.The only negative is the sizing on the larger end. Our dog is about 90 lbs and the door is a bit of a tight fit. For him to get through without banging or dragging the sides, he needs to go very slow. I mean, it works, but even I see if we had gone with the XL door, that unit is only TALLER. I wish they made a size that was just a bit wider.Use the measuring guide and you should be ok. My dog is actually about exactly at or maybe a half inch wider than the width of the L door and it works...but not without a little bit of tightness (which also makes the door get a bit hairy as it works like a brush in his fur when he squeezes through) (which also makes the door get a bit hairy as it works like a brush in his fur when he squeezes through)All in all, we love it.-one caveat: it defintiley cuts down the interaction with your dog. We finally got it because kids are in high school now and with sports and school and activities, we are never sure who is going to be home when. This solved that problem for sure! Now that the dog and the children are all independent, you realize if they don't need something from you, they pretty much ignore you. It does take a way a little bit of relationship time. On the other hand, since this door has gone in and the kids have their drivers license, I get a lot more done around the house. (And by that, I mean, I don't do anything around the house.)

I'm so glad I found this PetSafe Plastic Pet Door with Soft Tinted Flap! We recently acquired a dog and wanted to provide him access to the yard while we were away for playtime and bathroom breaks. However, installing a dog door yourself or buying a new door with one already installed is both costly and time-consuming. Even though it's not inexpensive, this is competitively priced and simple to install on your own. It comes with a template that you just trace on your door and cut the required size hole from. The graphic also indicates the height you should set it at. Our pit bull and pit bull/german shepherd mix pups fit perfectly in a size big. Drilling holes and using the included plastic screws to attach the door to the frame are the only remaining steps. I can tell you from experience that it is much simpler to complete this task with two persons since you can work on it with one person inside the door and the other outside the door. Plastic nuts and bolts are included because of their length, which enables usage with doors of various thicknesses. We had to remove many of the bolts because the door was a typical size but the central portion was extremely thin. I adore how the bottom of the flap has a magnetic strip. This enables it to close gracefully on its own, keeping most of the outer elements outside, where they belong. Even when I occasionally detect a draft, it's not enough to cause me to object. We immediately realized that there are occasions when we simply do not want to let our dog outside, therefore the cover is really helpful in these circumstances. It's just a basic clip-on cover that enables you to lock your dog door from the inside, allowing you to prevent your pet from entering if you so want. This provides the ideal solution, so there's no need to go around for something big enough to cover the hole. Although some people might prefer a darker shade, the white was ideal for our white door, and we couldn't be happier with it.~Thanx~

The house I purchased already had a PetSafe door installed. I love it! It has worked great and took a mere 5 minutes and some treats to teach my pup to use it. As the temperature has dropped, a fairly strong draft has started to form. Due to this I purchased the Extreme Weather Energy Efficient pet door. Installation was very easy because the "hardest" part, cutting a hole in the door, was already completed. The rest of the installation was very quick and mostly straight forward.Right away I noticed a big difference between this and the basic version. This has 2 plastic flaps (versus the 1 flap on the basic version) as well as the insulated yellow flap, weatherstripping, as well as plastic clips to help weatherproof the plastic inner pieces. The plastic bolts do work, though you should be careful not to over-tighten and crack them. This is very well thought out. It works as described.This kit includes the foam for additional sealing. Nothing else is needed if you purchase this kit, except the tools for installation. Do not purchase the seal kit separately! You can pick up RTV (Silicone) from a local auto parts store for cheap if needed.The prior owner installed it too low (At least for my 60 lb Siberian Husky), so please do not go off the photo for installation height. Make sure to read the included directions on measuring your pup and cutting the hole accordingly.Overall this is worth every penny! In the middle of the night if my pup wakes me up to go out all I do is open my bedroom door. She goes downstairs and out into the yard to do her business. During the day when I am here she comes and goes as she pleases. If I have to stay late at work I do not have to rush home or worry that she has been home alone for too long without using the bathroom. If it is snowing and she wants to go outside for an hour or two she can. I do not need to check on her every 10 minutes to see if she is ready to come back inside. This is really a life changer!
