Anywhere I can get clients to spend the money, I install these. The software and drivers that come with them are excellent, and they scan documents quickly and with a good level of fidelity. The program will skip blank pages and automatically determine the correct size of each sheet of paper in a single scan if you use the paperstream drivers to establish multiple scan profiles and set users up to be able to scan in numerous pages of any size from a single document. I typically set up users so they can do all of this by simply touching the scanner's front-facing scan button. EDIT FOUND AT BOTTOM:We adore this, but only once you understand the specifics. I bought this for my wife because she wants to digitize all of our old photographs (we have MANY photos). I have three all-in-one scanners in my home, but the Doxie Plus is the ONLY one I would recommend for mass scanning photographs that are 8x10 or smaller. That covers everything you need to know about the positive, and I'll move on to talking about my problems. I assumed this could be used without any reading because I'm a techi, but that is not the case.I did quickly scan the manual and discover that it has built-in memory but that you can expand it via the SD slot. I then inserted a 64GB card that I had lying around. When it should have turned on and stopped blinking, it would not. I do some research and discover that it only works with specific SD cards (really?!). There is actually a ton of built-in RAM, which is absolutely absurd.When I took out the SD card, it still worked well. I looked for a "Calibration PDF" on their website while trying to identify the bootup issue (regular SD card in slot). This page serves as the calibration sheet for the scanner. Can you believe if you lose it, they force you to buy that! Another mistake, in my view. If you buy a used one, you better make sure the calibration card is in there; otherwise, you will have to buy another one if the calibration is ever needed again. My wife had the calibration sheet (not sure why you would but just letting you know).The indicator turns green as soon as the scanner is turned on (300 dpi scan). If you hit the button one more, it switches to Orange (600 dpi). They ought to have a straightforward sticker stating this above the power button, but they don't, and they ought to let you pick a default option, but they don't.Since we were scanning images, we set the resolution to 600 dpi, which still allowed for a quick scan. 300 dpi is quite quick (ie for documents).You must launch the software to import the scanned photographs after scanning all of your photos. But the import procedure is not complete when you click the "Import" button in the upper right corner. You must click the Store button below to really save the photographs to your local drive after selecting every image on the screen. We scanned a lot of images and documents, saving the documents as PDFs while saving the photos as JPGs. The pictures were also divided by year and child. So I realized that my initial interpretation of this was a little off.3) According to Doxie, the calibration card must be the exact printed version. Because the card board is thicker, printing on an 8x11 piece of paper would not be possible. If your calibration card is missing, you can speak with them about ordering one.I take pride in providing thorough and accurate evaluations, so I wanted to make sure I addressed these concerns. I purchased three of these Epson scanners so that I could compare their performance. I purchased the DS-1630, ES-400, and ES-500W. I'm comparing it to a DS-510 that is a few years old as well. As a computer technician, I frequently assist small medical practices. Although I favor Fujitsu Snapscan scanners, many offices require twain scanning in order for their software to interact. Since Epson scanners are more affordable and can do twain, I usually choose them for offices that require twain. To determine whether there is a need for one or the other in the offices I work with.My old DS-510, the ES-400, and the ES-500W are all document feeder scanners only. Compared to the DS-510's 26 pages per minute, the new ES-400 and ES-500W print at a rate of 35 pages per minute. To reach this speed, I'm positive you need to use a USB 3.0 port and the supplied cable. I don't really see much of a difference between my old scanner and these new ones, other than the fact that they are faster than the DS-510. It operates similarly. Software is essentially the same. If you have an older Epson, this will increase printing speed but not much else.Although wireless is included into the ES-500W, it isn't fast enough to be of much use. You can scan directly to a phone or the cloud, yes. Just too slowly! And all of the wireless scanners I've used have this problem. We'll be purchasing more ES-400 scanners because they appear to be the same scanner with the wifi feature removed. Since there is just a $50 price difference, I'm confident some customers will choose the ES-500W solely because they anticipate using the wifi. In the past, when using older scanners, the wifi scanning wasn't utilized.A document feeder and flatbed are features of the DS-1630. It's a really intriguing combination. The flatbed isn't often needed by the offices I work with. Additionally, they have sizable all-in-one printers, so when necessary, they use the flatbed there. While some of the graphic artists I work with require a flatbed, they prefer a superior scanner and do not require the document feeder. (And we provide Epson Perfection flatbed scanners for graphic designers.) Desktop scanners are commonly used in offices for their speed and convenience, although you don't really get any of those benefits here. Although I'm sure there is a market for this, I personally thought it was more intriguing prior to using it.All of these scanners use essentially the same software. The twain driver does an excellent job and enables integration with other scanning software. Although not as simple as the Fujitsu Snapscan program, the Epson software is still decent. I am a little confused. I really appreciate this portable scanner, but a few aspects have me wondering about the design choices that went into them. Additionally, the computer and mobile app versions operate very differently in a variety of ways that confuse me to the point where I find several product descriptions to be false. You are not required to have a WiFi router available in this mode. You merely link your phone, tablet, or computer right to the scanner. My Scansnap s1300i has been with me for a year. Although I abuse it, it never breaks. I use it to store every single piece of paper that has anything to do with my restaurant, including receipts for groceries, tractor feed, invoices, stapled papers, business cards, payroll runs, employee records, credit cards (not advised), and more. I also use it to manage my mother's estate and for my personal documents. In a nutshell, the scanner was delivered on schedule, was in nice shape, and functions properly on my MacBook Pro.Here is a whole evaluation.Disclaimer: I only occasionally scan documents with more than 14 pages; I usually just use this for single-page documents. Since I haven't used any of the other programs that the scanner uses, such as BR-Receipts or Presto!PageManager, I am unable to remark on them.Having said that, the scanner is excellent. It functions better than I anticipated. To improve the scans, brightness and contrast can be changed. Simply turn on the "Multi Page Output" checkbox to enable multi-page scanning. You can even change the page orientation under "Options," enabling you to scan receipts in sideways and have the files come out right-side up, for example. Even though it doesn't seem amazing, placing them sideways helps maintain the PDFs squared up, so that's a lot of papers you WON'T have to manually rotate 90 degrees. Last but not least, I was concerned about feeding my papers in straight for fear that the PDFs would come out skewed, but it turns out that this was not a problem. Even if the page is fed in at an angle, the DSmobileCapture software automatically locates and aligns the top edge in an effort to square off the PDFs. The only thing I find annoying is that you have to manually feed in EVERY PAGE rather than putting them in a stack and having the machine take them up one at a time. Overall, the time I now save compared to my previous scanning methods and the convenience of having a portable scanner make this purchase well worth the cost.

We have seven of these scanners, one at my home office and six on the desks of my team members in my law practice. They significantly reduce the amount of paper used because we scan client-provided documents before returning them to them. I use it at home for a construction business that we run out of the house as well as two rental enterprises. In the past, each firm produced a large amount of paperwork that needed to be sorted and filed. These scanners reduce the amount of time spent filing, which helps my staff members save money and annoyance while also saving money on file cabinets and floor space. These scanners may be set up and used quickly and easily. Documents can be scanned more quickly than they can be destroyed. The documents are easily kept in electronic files after being scanned to PDF (backed up in a dual core hard drive onsite and in cloud storage offsite). They perform duplex and color autoscanning. The initial ones were bought in November 2013, and three years later, they are still running strong. The two subsequent ones were bought in January 2016, while this one was bought in October 2016.Revised September 2017. One recently purchased in November 2013 passed away. purchasing another. In my opinion, the runtime was reasonable given the cost, usability, and convenience.

Everything began with very no documentation.It worked perfectly for a short period of time, but now I'm stuck in software hell with "help" only available during the week and issues "communicating with the program error -14." There is nothing on the internet to assist you, and this error message seems to date from the 1980s. Next to Zippo is a place for documentation. I've tried everything (resetting the computer, running a scanner, uninstalling and reinstalling programs, briefly disabling antivirus), but the communication fault persists. Countless hours were spent.The message "Could not execute the recognition procedure" appeared when I tried a different machine.I suppose I'll learn more about their support on Monday. This reminds me of a beta test for a new product, or perhaps I just got a dud.UPDATE: Their telephone help was excellent, however after talking to the "tier 1" support for more than an hour, they sent me to the "tier 2" support. It turns out that a DLL file is corrupted by a software flaw. The DLL file update by the Tier 2 support agent appears to have solved the issue. It appears that a software update will be released soon to address this issue.It's too bad the error code and the problem haven't reached their Tier 1 support because then I wouldn't have had to fiddle with things for another hour or more.UPDATE #2: They have made the software problem patch available, and it appears to work. I'm impressed by how quickly it can scan through some old paperback manuals that I'm digitizing to conserve space and make information more easily accessible online. The program and user interface should be much better, and the documentation is essentially nonexistent. Since the scanning speed is the most important aspect of the device, I am growing more satisfied overall.

As a traveling notary, I required a quick, dependable mobile scanner. Due to the fact that it wasn't compatible with my Chromebook, I bought it and returned it. Instead, I bought a doxie q, which had excellent reviews but was dreadful. I made the decision to repurchase this one and, if necessary, to get a laptop that was compatible with it. I found out that there is an iphone app for this, and all I needed was a hot spot for the scanned documents to transfer instantly to my phone. I scan IDs from front to back and endless pages of paperwork. This feeds straight and never messes with the original, plus it is quite quick. According to some evaluations I read, it feeds unevenly and masticates the original. I can only assume that they are being compensated to disparage this scanner. This product is really fantastic. Without a doubt, I'd suggest it. This has significantly improved the way I conduct business and changed it for the better.
