I am a skilled craftsperson and handyman. The Gum-Soft Picks now have an 83 percent 5-star rating as of mid-April 2019. That's quite exceptional for any Amazon product, really. I thus looked at the 4-star reviews, and a large number of them mention my one criticism about them: that they bend excessively. They become ineffective after they bend. They used to not bend very much, but now they do. And you'd think that the Gum team would carefully read these reviews and raise the bar on their offering. But look at me; even though I've been using 3.5 per day, I ordered 320 of them in January and am now ordering another 320 just three months later! Why do I use so many when I don't floss religiously? since they BEND! And it seems to take 3.5 each day to finish the work. Good results. They work excellent if you struggle with dexterity or are just lazy at flossing like I am. The front and rear of each tooth, or the mesial and distal in dental jargon, are meant to go under the gum line. To be effective and avoid cutting your gums, they should conform to the concavity or contour of each tooth. Your teeth's bacterial plaque, not food, is what causes tooth decay and periodontal disease, thus brushing your teeth is really just scraping the plaque off. These Dentek slim brushes were once available at Wal-Mart, but lately I haven't been able to find any in the area. I turned to Amazon out of desperation. I've been looking for the thinnest brushes I can find for certain small locations, but the Dentek descriptors (tapered, slim, ultra thin, tight, super tight, 2.0-3.0 mm, etc.) and handle colors have left me perplexed (green, yellow, purple). I therefore purchased two packets of 32 in order to compare and evaluate them. I received one shipment from Kivox for $6.25 along with other things I had ordered from Amazon. The handles were purple and were reported as being "very tight" much as in the Amazon image. They came from India. TeethNThings mailed the other shipment separately, and it cost $6.89. Although the packing card listed them as yellow when they were actually purple and just like the ones from Kivox, the Amazon image showed green handles. The few older ones I still had from Wal-Mart were made in Vietnam and had yellow grips. I used a stereomicroscope to examine the yellow and purple ones and found the following: Yellow and purple metal wires have the same diameter and are coiled into a loop with no exposed ends that may be sharp or come apart. The twisted, double-helical wire that holds the plastic bristles in place is made of the same diameter throughout. The yellow wire had 18 entire twists compared to 13 complete twists on the purple wire, which was the only noticeable difference. Function is probably not significantly impacted. Even while it was probably of no relevance, the purple handle was a little stiffer than the yellow handle. I lacked green ones to use as a benchmark. Maybe, despite the variations in names and hues, they're all really the same. Too bad Dentek muddled things up. They must be handled gently and carefully due to their thinness to prevent bending and unintentional gum piercing, but they are very useful in small spaces.

It's kind of comical reading some of these reviews. People get a 1 because, well, they break when flossing, I guess. It occasionally fails. You receive one more. If you use more than two at once, I believe you may be experiencing other problems that are unrelated to the floss. The same folks give their treadmill one star evaluations because they think it becomes dusty. If you keep breaking these, have a deep clean.
