It can be cut in half and handled similarly to bread slices. Alternatively, you can spread butter on one side, top it with strawberry jam or cheese, and eat it as a snack without cutting it apart. It has a crispy exterior like a potato pancake but no flavor or a very faint flavor, and it doesn't crumble as easily. A little percentage of the interior has a mushy, potato-like texture, but you can either scrape it out or leave it in. Really, it makes no difference to what you consume.They are quite easy to make. I followed the instructions exactly, only adding salt and water, and they were perfect. It was a delicious breakfast after I sandwiched a sausage patty between the two slices. In my iron skillet, I first fried them in a little bacon fat, but I had to keep adding grease because they seemed to absorb it. The second time, I attempted a different technique and used very little grease, but I still cooked them in my cast iron griddle for the same amount of time. After that, I placed them directly on the oven rack and heated the oven to 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Before combining the maize flour into the water, I added a teaspoon of oil.Even though these are much thinner than an English muffin, I was nevertheless astounded that I could break them in half like an English muffin and they remained whole. I wish I had been aware of these when I switched to a gluten-free diet. I just ate one with sausage and scrambled eggs.

My husband decided to look into blue masa after sampling some blue tortilla chips from the grocery that were organic. According to what he had read, compared to conventional white masa, organic blue masa contains 20% more protein and 12% less starch. We tried this because he likes to make his own corn tortillas (he typically uses yellow masa).It has been mentioned in several reviews that the packing isn't ideal for shipping. A small amount of the masa had leaked out of the manufacturer's packing when ours arrived, but not enough to cause us any concern. This wasn't made any easier by the shipping packaging because this packaging was vulnerable to being jostled and squashed during delivery because it was sent in a bag-style envelope.The tortillas were used to make enchiladas. Although the texture is a little odd, they taste fantastic! This is undoubtedly a more expensive alternative if you make a lot of money, though. With half a pound of masa, my husband prepared around a dozen tortillas, costing roughly $5 per dozen. We don't produce these in great quantities, therefore we will definitely make another buy. I've deducted one star for packaging, but overall I think we lucked out by not losing more stuff.

I am startled by any of the terrible reviews, but they all derive from what seems like not knowing how to prepare tortillas, with that being said.... I have been using BRM for around 6 years now and that included tortillas and other specialty a few times a month. I used to use maseca but haven’t been able to acquire that in my area in years. BRM makes a better, tastier tortilla by far. If it’s too crumbly or wet, you have to adjust the water. With any dough recipe it is absolutely throw off by the humidity in your kitchen. My summer and winter tortillas can have as much as a cup difference is water. I just add slowly u til it just comes together. You also have to use a cast iron tortilla press. I use Victoria brand. I also use a folded sheet of parchment paper in my press - makes the tortillas peel right off and makes for quick clean up. Make sure you cook with only cast iron and it is blazing hot. You can use oil in the pan, but don’t need it (then you are preparing tostadas instead) (then you are making tostadas instead). And I wanted to add because of some of the terrible reviews - this is absolutely not corn meal! I accidently grabbed the wrong container one night for corn bread and I had a corn block (thick, gummy, and dense) (thick, gummy, and dense). I’m not sure where those reviews are coming from!!!

fantastic stuff The majority of my cornbread "secret recipe" is contained in here. I'd also like to track down the same corn meal mixture in its basic (NOT buttermilk) form. For things like Thanksgiving cornbread dressing, I like the simple version. The buttermilk variant as well as the non-buttermilk version of these goods are both good. Depending on the flavor chosen, both are excellent. makes wonderful and simple cornbread. For a more crunchy crust, I occasionally sprinkle some nice, plain cornmeal on the bottom of the baking pan. (When baking cornbread, I much like using cast iron.) And this is my preferred version of my "secret" recipe (although depending on the cook, I may add more eggs at home). I want to keep this mixture on hand because it is useful.

It is erroneous to say that you will receive 12 1 pound canisters of cornmeal in the item description. It is 24 ounces, as shown in the picture, and I just got it today. Only now, when I was getting ready to review, did I realize that it is exactly what I had anticipated getting. Since it is simply cornmeal, I haven't used it yet, but I'm confident that it will be fine. I was a little let down by the short expiration date of December 3, 2019. Although the holidays are only around the way, I'm confident it will be used by then. I had hoped for a far later date.
