My RIDGID WD4050 shop vacuum, which is over 7 years old, works great with this Ridgid VF3500 3-Layer Filter. While there may be some misunderstanding regarding the difference between part numbers VF3500 and VR3500, this is just a result of RIDGID updating the filter's design. However, this newer VF model does not need the usage of the circular, black plastic plate that was required to hold on the older (open bottom) style of filter. EITHER part number (VR or VF prefix) will fit and function properly. Now, the bottom of the filter is directly molded with a rubberized plate (hence the black tabs you can see peeking out from the bottom of the product picture). Technically, you could also do without the white nylon threaded nut that was used to secure the round plastic plate. The white nylon nut was attached despite the fact that the new filter is more of a "friction fit" since enough of the threaded post pokes through the center of this newer filter to make it possible.

When compared to similar products, these are reasonably priced. The disk filter is little too large, but with careful positioning, the foam filter base tightens everything up. The foam filter fits well. I could also trim a little bit off, but I washed the old set a lot before obtaining the new set, and they do shrink up a little bit when washed.I purchased this machine in 2014, and this is the first time I have replaced the filters in it. I had just been washing them once every few months. I have not washed the HEPA filter, thus I purchased this set more for it than the foam filters. For my Dyson D65 Animal, I gambled on this non-OEM item, and I'm glad I did. On Dyson's website, the post-filter alone costs $60 with shipping. By switching both filters to this brand, I was able to get my vacuum back to full suction for a significant discount. Because the old ones were so dirty, it had been overheating; now it functions flawlessly. The installation of the filters went without a hitch. I haven't yet examined the glue on the post-filter after some use, but I'll update if I find an issue. Currently, I'm extremely pleased with this purchase, and I've bought more so that I can replace them on a regular basis to maintain my vacuum operating at its best. Despite what is said on the side of the Dyson post filter, it cannot be washed. Cleaning filtered paper merely seals in dirt. Until you swap it out for a new one, you'll keep losing suction.

For my vintage red 9-gallon Sears Craftsman Model 113.xxx shop vacuum, I ordered this 17816 filter in 2015. It fits wonderfully and is of high quality. comes with a plastic cap-nut and is packaged in a Craftsman-branded box. Push it down over the cage to seat it, then spin the plastic cap-nut on. Mine goes over a 4" diameter x 7" tall plastic cage with a plastic 1" long stud on top with a 7/16"-ish thread. I'd suggest looking in that cage first to remove any debris caught there. You can try and pick any debris out through the cage slots or just pop the whole cage off with some eff.For your information, the filter you received is not a simple round plastic plate with a hole in the center for the stud, as shown in the picture.Choose from one of the four identical-size filters in the product line that best suits your needs: 1) 17816 general purpose (this filter); 2) 17907 for finer dust and ashes; 3) 17912 for the highest level of filtration for fine pollen and allergens; and 4) 17292 wet-only filter.
