In case storage becomes necessary, the crate may still be readily disassembled and transported. I additionally purchased the AmazonBasics Padded Pet Bolster Bed - 22 x 15 inches to make this carrier more cozy for my cat. Given that it appears to be slightly larger than stated, the bed just barely fits into the crate. Although it takes some force to push it into the bottom of the carrier, my cat seems to like it just well, so there are no concerns there.The door can be installed by simply inserting a peg into a hole and stretching the opening to accommodate the opposite peg. I don't understand why some of these reviews claim it was difficult to put the door on because I was able to put together the entire carrier, including the door, in under ten seconds (without using the extra hardware). The top door also operates without a hitch. There is enough room to reach in and flip the release tabs up. The struts that lock it into place are each tensioned with a powerful spring. One reviewer here described having to use a knife or another instrument to flip up the tabs, but I am a grown man, and I have no trouble doing it with my fingers. I also own a heavy Pet Life folding carrier and a very costly SleepyPod pet carrier. This carrier is not as robust as the others, but it fits a need because it is so portable, light, and simple to store. There are some disadvantages, though, that you should be aware of.1.) Even though putting it together isn't difficult, it is a little uncomfortable because you have to move the pieces around awkwardly to get them to fit together. Holding the parts in the proper direction for the zippers to line isn't difficult; it's simply awkward.2. There is simply one 6" x 8" mesh panel that provides decent visibility. The walls' tiny circular cutout pattern provides very little visibility. (Each hole measures 1 1/8")3.) Just be aware that zipping the door shut takes a long time (relatively speaking) if you have an animal escape artist who doesn't like going in the carrier. I can speak from experience when I suggest that 3 seconds is enough time for your cat (or dog) to elbow past you and bid you farewell. Let's assume it takes you 4 seconds to fight with the zipper and get it around the corners. If you believe you can use the load-from-the-top method by unzipping the top of the structure, you *can*. However, it will take you a long time to zip the structure back up completely.4.) The top and bottom shells of the carrier are constructed of that incredibly light molded foam material, which is quite inventive because they are both one continuous smooth piece. This material is also commonly used to make lightweight eyewear cases. The feet of this carrier, however, are simply molded bumps in the foam, which is fantastic for weight reduction but may not be long-lasting. When I was building mine, it simply became dirty from sitting on the living room floor.5.) The black fleece pad that is given is incredibly plush but unpadded. It appears as though you removed your fleece pullover from your closet and placed it in the bag. Additionally, the inside resembles that since the carrier shell's floor has those molded bumps. The molded lumps are still detectable when you lay that thin layer of fleece down. Given their extreme roundness, they are neither painful nor uncomfortable. Even with the unevenness, I wouldn't have any trouble sleeping if I could squeeze in there. However, a thicker pad would still have been good. You may simply fix this by including your own crate pad or blanket. They're all over my house.6.) The walls don't precisely easily spring back into shape because they are folded up inside the shell. As a result, from above looking down, the carrier still has a little potato-like appearance rather than being a perfect round.Despite all of that, this carrier has a lot of positive qualities. Its design is clever, it is lightweight, and it can fit in even the smallest storage area. This is a wonderful carrier if you add your own pad, especially for city folks who don't have extra storage. My other 2 carriers won't be replaced by this, but it makes a great backup. This is the kind of item you need for your earthquake kit or emergency go-bag, at the risk of seeming like a crazy cat person (guilty as charged). The fortunate few survivors of the Fukushima disaster or the San Bruno gas pipeline had just a few seconds to grab their pets and flee; as a result, they wound up in makeshift shelters without carriers for them or resources to care for them. After witnessing it, I made sure I had an earthquake kit for both myself and my cat. You can bet that if I only have ten seconds to fetch her and leave, I'll take her, fit her under my shirt, possibly gouge out one of my eyeballs in the process, grab our nearest earthquake bags, and run out of there. A fashionable eyepatch should surely be included in my emergency kit; I'll need it.

For my biggest and youngest cat, who transforms into a tiger when it's time to get in the carrier, I ordered this. It's much easier to gently insert him from the top because he can't brace both of his paws against the lateral aperture. Although this carrier is excellently made, I believe a few cat tantrums will break it due to its light construction. This carrier is too delicate to be carried about when empty.

This assessment is solely of the features and specifications of the international kennel because we were on a military move from the United States.Features of the kennel: The only criteria that this kennel does not meet is that it have 11 plastic bolt holes. Plastic nuts were included with it. All flights now require metal nuts and bolts. In addition to the 11 bolt holes, this carrier contains 4 tie down holes. My airline made it clear that there must be a bolt in every hole. Therefore, the carrier required 15 metal nuts and screws. Some airlines permit you to leave the four tie down holes unfilled, but make sure and order the bolts in advance to ensure you have the appropriate number. Due to shipping deadlines, we neglected to do this and were forced to purchase 3 kits. There was no Prime option for metal bolts on Amazon. But you require these. Metal Fasteners Nuts Bolts (1-1/4" Medium Bolts, 16 Pack) for Pet Carrier A 16 pack will ensure that it is better to be safe than sorry.Has Zip tie holes already drilled Finding kennels with this completed is difficult. Zip tying the kennel doors shut is required. Best are quick releases. Giving A Hand Various Rapid Release 8-inch nylon cable ties Make sure to demand that you zip tie your dogs by hand! I had to retake it after watching the security guard do it incorrectly. I'm so delighted the rapid release worked. A buddy also experienced the same event, but they failed to see that the attendant had just threaded it through the hole and not the door. Their dog tore off the door, escaping into the plane's belly. This leads me to the next feature.Has a metal door that is made in one piece. Make sure to abide with this rule. Plastic is not allowed! To make packing simpler, the middle of some larger kennel doors is folded. The sort of door required by some airlines is not specified, and some carriers restrict the fold. Same thing happened to a friend only they didn't catch that the attendant only thread it though the hole and not the door. Their dog got loose in the belly of the plane after ripping off the door. This brings me to the next feature.Has single piece metal door- Be sure to follow this guideline, a metal single piece door. No plastic allowed! Some larger kennel doors have a fold in the middle of the door to make packing easier. Some airlines don't specify the type of door needed and some forbid the fold. It gives the dog the ability to pull the door in which will then collapse and allows for escape. This kennel door is a solid one piece.Has protruding bar/side handles- This follows the requirement of "a spacer rim protruding at least 3/4 on all sides with ventilation openings"This is so the airline can carry and move the kennel without using the handle (known to fail on some kennels) and prevent a dog from being able to bite or contact movers hands. This kennel states that the rim is designed to work as side handles.Has 4 sides of air holes- Requirement is air holes must be "on all four sides at least halfway on each side". This kennel has it and even better metal grates! I had a friend whose dog chewed the space between the plastic holes during flight. Some kennels show in the picture that they have air holes in the back but come to find after ordering they didn't have the air holes on the backside in the smaller sizes. Especially for cat carriers. Note- Domestic flights only requires 2 vent sides but they stack and pack kennels like baggage and airflow will be restricted. Go with ventilation on all sides.Food Dishes- These were actually deep enough to be functional. Kennels with dishes attached inside on the walls are not allowed. Airlines must be able to "access dishes attached to door without opening the kennel door" they do this through funnels. On my main international flight with 2 layovers and a total of 20 hours travel they did not feed or water my dogs once. Even though it's the law. My advice freeze water ahead of flight so it doesn't make a mess or even better get a lixit water bottle to ensure your dogs don't dehydrate. We got Lixit Small Dog Water Bottle 16-OunceStickers- This kennel came with stickers and that is a requirement but airlines have them and will use their own as well. The stickers included are crap and leave an awful residue. The airlines put the sticker packet of paper work over the " "Live Animal" in 1-inch letters on the crate's top" required sticker. Upon removal of that it lifted the sticker below mucking up the brand new kennels. My advice, bring the stickers and apply at check in where they are needed once the paperwork covers the entire top of kennel and use airline stickers if possible.Note for size- The length requirement for international travel is [their length half their leg] so there must be ample room in front and back. This made us need the larger kennel which is much larger than our previous kennel. Some will say that the rule of thumb is as long as they can turn around it's okay. But that is the length rule for IATA. Height for IATA includes ears and ears cannot touch top of kennel while standing. Again, why we had to go up a size (dang chihuahuas) (dang chihuahuas). After traveling with my pets on over 6 different flights I can say that most airline attendants are clueless about the pet requirements needed. I had one tell me they don't even receive training on the requirements and offered to let both dogs go into one kennel (a international no no) (a international no no). But I did have had one who knew their stuff and used a tape measure. So better safe than sorry!Traveling with your pet no matter how far is stress full. With international flights being long dogs get anxious and try to escape, sometimes successfully in cheep kennels. So get this one! Airlines have different requirements and regulations. It's better to buy new then to try to modify existing kennels. Save yourself the time! Get this kennel and you only need to purchase zip ties (hand release are best), metal bolts, and some puppy pads. I realize this is much more info than necessary for a review but I know how hard it was getting this information. The provided stickers are terrible and leave a terrible residue. The mandatory sticker, "Live Animal" in 1-inch letters on the top of the crate, was placed over by the airlines with the sticker packet of paperwork. When that was taken off, the sticker below was lifted, dirtying up the brand-new kennels. My recommendation is to carry the stickers and apply them at check-in once the paperwork completely covers the top of the kennel. The provided stickers are terrible and leave a terrible residue. The mandatory sticker, "Live Animal" in 1-inch letters on the top of the crate, was placed over by the airlines with the sticker packet of paperwork. When that was taken off, the sticker below was lifted, dirtying up the brand-new kennels. My recommendation is to carry the stickers and apply them at check-in once the paperwork completely covers the top of the kennel.
