The theory is that the light from the zappers attracts not only mosquitoes, but also other insects, which are then caught in the electrical grid. So, while bug zappers may be effective at killing some insects

Electric Large Bug Zapper Racket, Mosquito killer, Fruit Fly Swatter Zap, Pest Control, USB Rechargeable, LED Lighting, Removable flashlight, Unique 3 Layer Safety Mesh Safe to Touch Review:

In New Hampshire, black flies, no-see-ums, mosquitoes, and horseflies are troublesome for the most of the summer. When we took lengthy walks, one of my dogs, Marshall, sometimes known as "the stinky one," frequently trailed a huge cloud of insects. I tried swatting them with my baseball cap for a bit, but the bugs are fairly rapid, and it's unlikely that you'll get rid of enough of them to do anything. Then we purchased this take-anywhere bug zapper. I was cautiously optimistic that this gadget would be helpful because I was fascinated as a child by how well my dad's old hanging insect light functioned. Not only does it function flawlessly, but I went a week without charging it before doing so simply because I didn't think it would last that long. I probably use it to zap 100 horseflies and 50 mosquitoes a day, and it's sort of entertaining to try to do it while walking. The bigger bugs, like horseflies, frequently get stuck in the grates, forcing you to blow or scrape them out in order to prevent them from sitting there and shorting out the grid and cooking (which smells bad). As a result, the dogs may not necessarily LOVE it, but it is still a game-changer. It became a game to "swipe" all the bugs off of everyone while you're walking after my wife started using it on a trek up in Maine where the mosquitoes were severe. She wouldn't give it back after she started using it.Anyway, I wholeheartedly urge you to make this buy; you won't be sorry!

Elucto Large Electric Bug Zapper Fly Swatter Zap Mosquito Best for Indoor and Outdoor Pest Control (2 DURACELL AA Batteries Included) Review:

We currently have, or perhaps I should say "had," an unusually high number of yellow jacket wasps robbing oriole feeders. The birds were driven away by the wasps' fierce defense of that food source.Let me just say that swatting quickly enough to zap a fly is pure luck, and there will be dozens of misses before you connect with a fly. I bought the Large Electric Bug Zapper, which is promoted here as a "fly swatter."If the racquet was made of clear plastic rather than yellow, you could get considerably closer before they realized what had zapped them.I want to confirm that this zapper will, in fact, remove hornets and wasps from the air as they hover over your food—or, in my case, grape jelly meant for orioles. The bundled batteries had enough power to power the zapping activities for a whole week.Do you want more exciting pops and zaps? Swat bugs at night to see the sparks "fly" (pun intended).Additionally effective against wall creepers within the home.I have no reservations about recommending this.WARNING: When it's charged, touching it with your fingertips will actually sting you sharply! Keep children at a distance.

GLOUE Bug Zapper Light Bulb, 2 in 1 Mosquito Killer Lamp UV Led Electronic Insect & Fly Killer Review:

The Central Valley of California has experienced a particularly terrible mosquito invasion this year. A bug zapper is recommended by the majority of local blog sites as a way to get rid of some of our tiny flying companions. There have been cases of the deadly West Nile Virus just a few blocks from our house. I decided to try the GLOUE Bug Zapper Light Bulb, and gosh, am I glad I did. This zapper actually does the trick! Older outdoor porch lights in my backyard need a tight fit for the bulb. I wanted to position the GLOUE as effectively as I could for maximum eradication impact. To fully expose the GLOUE Zapper, I removed the glass cover from the porch light. During the evening, I turned on the blue light and left it on all night. In a single night, the GLOUE Zapper killed hundreds of mosquitoes. To prepare for another round of zapping, I unscrewed the bulb and used my air compressor to blow off the dead insects. In my opinion, pressurized air in a can would work just as well to remove the zapper's casualties. To replace the second light in the backyard, I'm going to purchase another one. I'm genuinely amazed by how well the GLOUE has performed and I'm quite happy with it.

Aspectek Upgraded 20W Electronic Bug Zapper, Insect Killer - Mosquito, Fly, Moth, Wasp, Beetle & Other pests Killer for Indoor Residential & Commercial Review:

This device works TOO WELL, I almost want to say. Since the early 1990s when I was a child and they were really popular, I haven't seen a bug zapper, but I still well remember the zap sound they made when they were used. The sound this item creates on contact is SO LOUD that I physically jumped a few times because I'm not at all used to it, even if it is silent when it's on and not electrocuting anything! Every time I hear the zap, I'm reminded of the phrase "overkill" because it sounds so intense. However, it's possible that the way it's made and not the current is the cause of the sound. I don't know, it simply sounds to me like a needlessly violent death, but it certainly works! It clearly attracted bugs as soon as I switched it on, and after using it for just half an hour, I was shocked by how many dead flying insects it had killed for me. Because of this, I decided to take a picture to share with you guys. The sound actually reminds me A LOT of those cap guns from the 1980s, where you'd put those maroon strips inside the gun and once you shot it, you'd hear a loud pop and the gun would smoke. I recorded a video of a bug meeting a loud death so you could hear how the room goes from silence to a loud bang. That's how it sounds if that's the case. So it might startle you when you're doing something, like reading, like I was when this thing went off at random.

Black Flag ZR-7936-L Handheld Fly Zapper Review:

This bug zapper is well built, to be honest. Although I would not go slamming it against stuff, I would say that it is solid for what it is.A single pair of AA batteries seems to last quite a while and are simple to install. The fact that the ON button is located on the side of the handle, where it can be held down with either the thumb or forefinger and still function, suggests that holding it down is necessary for it to function. The D-ring on the end is a minor detail that I really value. This makes it simple to hang and, consequently, easier to access when needed.Because it usually fails to kill flies when used to zap them, I deducted one star. If you manage to find the bugger after you've stunned it, it will shock them just enough to make it simpler to zap again, stomp on, or slap with another fly swatter. If the fly manages to get stuck in the racquet, you can continue zapping it until it starts to smell like burning and passes away, but if you swat it and it bounces off, there's a good chance the fly is still alive. I don't know, maybe it would expire on its own. I do know that if it doesn't snap, crackle, and pop a few times after that initial zap, they can still fly. This fly zapper and another fly swatter that I use together create an unholy alliance that is ready to exterminate flies. The affordable price of this product is a significant plus. makes it simple to try out, and if you decide it's not for you, there's not much to lose. It's worth it, in my opinion.

LiBa Bug Zapper Electric Indoor Insect Killer Mosquito, Bug, Fly Killer - Powerful 2800V Grid 20W Bulbs - 2-Pack Replacement Bulbs Included Review:

I bought this because it had such great reviews on Amazon. It seems I was the "fluke." The item was delivered in its flimsy retail packaging without an outer box from Amazon. For things that are packed in a sufficient box, this is okay, but in this instance it wasn't. Because of this, the item appears to have been twisted during shipping, causing the frame to be warped. To make matters worse, it appears that one of the electrical connections to the high-voltage "grid" was never properly tightened during assembly. A high voltage grid stand-off/insulator was additionally recessed into the side cover, leaving a section of the grid unsupported. I'm an electronic technician, so I'll fix it myself rather than returning it to Amazon for a replacement or refund. It is evident from all the happy customers that I did, in fact, receive a lemon. Just make sure you carefully inspect your equipment upon shipment and during initial operation to rule out any visible issues.Revision (08/20/2017): The shortcomings reported upon shipment were fixed, and this unit has been operating flawlessly ever since. Both loud and dazzling, it is unquestionably a "killing machine"! may think about getting another one.(09/04/2017) Update: LiBa gave me an extra unit in response to the problems/comments I had presented. In contrast to the previous device I purchased (through Amazon), which merely came in retail packaging, this one arrived WITHIN an outer box. Unharmed unit was delivered. The HV grid lead connections were once again a little slack, but after thorough inspection, I am confident that the unit would have worked just fine without any more tightening. Naturally, I took the required steps to secure them before turning on the device for my own piece of mind. Both of my "zappers" have been working flawlessly and continually, sending all kinds of flying creatures to the Underworld. I am really delighted with these products and would not think twice about purchasing more. I must conclude by saying that LiBa has proven to be a top-notch vendor and distributor who stands behind their products with strong communication and exceptional follow-up customer support through action. There should be more merchants like LiBa, for sure. Thank you for resolving my concerns, and well done! Based on such actions, I have increased my review from 1 star to 4 stars.

Crioxen Indoor Plug-in Bug Zapper - Mosquito Trap with UV Light - Indoor Mosquito Killer - Electric Insect Repellent - Gnat Trap for Mosquitoes Fruit Flies and Flying Gnats Review:

This product's lovely, compact size is why I enjoy it. It can be moved quickly to any spot you would require it. This is what I first used in my bedroom. You may rest easy knowing that annoying insects won't bother you or bite you while you sleep if you simply plug it into any available outlet. This UV lamp kills mosquitoes. You can leave it plugged in all the time and only turn it on when necessary because there is an off/on switch. This is 500 square feet in size! It's impressive that much space could fit on such a tiny device. environmentally friendly because no pesticides or chemicals are required to protect you against bites. Simple to use and clean. The dead insects are even kept in a detachable tray. Simply remove it and clean it. In order to protect the kids from those stale scents, I will be purchasing more for their room. I'd advise using this bug zapper.

Indoor Plug-in Bug Zapper - 3.5 W / 110v with UV Light - Power Portable Home Electric Insect Trap - Odorless Noiseless - Blue Night Lamp for Removes Flies Mosquitos Gnats Moth and Bugs Review:

I was desperate to try anything because the new small "ankle biter" mosquitos have been attacking us. I genuinely think this product would have helped with our terrible problem, but I only wish I had discovered it a few months earlier. In the week that I've had it, I've managed to catch three tiny gnats. I was therefore happy that it worked, haha. Although first it was rather difficult to remove the plug from the unit, it is quite easy to use—all you have to do is plug it into the wall. My personal preference would be to plug it into our den or the open space in our dining area on the lower level outlets because I genuinely believe that it would catch more that way. However, I have two young children, so that is not safe for me as they will undoubtedly run towards the bright purple light. I have it plugged in beside the window because the only higher outlets in my house are in the kitchen. It seems to be working for the few critters that do get into my house right now, but I am looking forward to next summer when these dreadful bloodsucking beasts return and I can zap em all LoL. Great purchase for the money, and you can conveniently dump the dead bugs by pulling out the small tray.

Do bug zappers work in daylight?

Most bug zappers work by using a light source to attract insects. The insects are then electrocuted by touching two wires with a high voltage between them. The light source is usually in the form of a fluorescent bulb. Bug zappers will usually work better in the dark because the light is more visible to the insects. However, they can still work in daylight if the light is bright enough.

Do bug zappers work on black flies?

No, bug zappers do not work on black flies. Black flies are attracted to light, but they are not attracted to the ultraviolet light that bug zappers emit.

Do bug zappers work on spiders?

While this method is effective for many flying insects, it generally does not work on spiders. This is because most spiders are not attracted to light and, even if they were, they would not be able to touch the electrically charged grid without being electrocuted themselves.

Do insect zappers really work?

Insect zappers work by luring insects with a bright light and then electrocuting them when they come in contact with an electrified grid. In addition, many of the insects killed by zappers are not pests, but beneficial pollinators or other harmless insects. How do I get rid of mosquitoes outside?

There are a few things you can do to get rid of mosquitoes outside. One is to remove any standing water, since that's where they lay their eggs. You can also try using a mosquito repellent, either in spray form or as a candle. Finally, you can install a mosquito net over any areas where you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors.
