Can you use a tarp as a boat cover?

If you have a tarp and you need a boat cover, you can absolutely use a tarp! A tarp will protect your boat from the elements and keep it clean and dry. You'll want to make sure that the tarp is the right size for your boat, and that you secure it properly so that it doesn't blow away.

Do boat covers need to breathe?

Boat covers are designed to protect your boat from the elements, but in order for them to work properly, they need to be able to breathe. If a cover is not able to breathe, it will trap moisture underneath it, which can lead to mold and mildew growth. Additionally, covers that cannot breathe are more likely to cause your boat to overheat, as they will trap heat underneath them. In order to ensure that your boat cover is able to breathe, make sure that it is made from a breathable material and that there are vents or holes in the cover itself.

How do I keep my boat dry under a cover?

Assuming you are asking how to keep your boat dry while it is under a cover: -Make sure the cover is the correct size for your boat -Tighten the cover so that it is snug against the boat -Use straps or tie-downs to secure the cover to the boat -Use a tarp or other waterproof material under the cover to help prevent moisture buildup -Check the cover regularly for leaks or holes and repair as necessary

iCOVER Trailerable Boat Cover, Heavy Duty Waterproof UV Resistant Marine Grade Polyester Fits V-Hull,TRI-Hull,Pro-Style,Fishing Boat,Runabout,Bass Boat, Optional Support Pole/Tightening Straps Review:

This evaluation pertains to the 17–19 foot variant. I bought it for my 16-foot jon boat, and it did exactly what I expected by covering the boat, the 15-horsepower motor on one end, and the winch on the other. Well... Guess what? It covered the engine all the way to the front over the trolling motor on the older 18' Arias bass boat I recently purchased with a Johnson 150! Create a cover that is flat and should be perfectly water-repellent using the front deck prop seat, one windscreen, and the motor. With trimming, the attached straps fit beneath the boat very smoothly, and everything is perfectly snug. I'll check back in a while to give you an update on how it holds up to the elements, but thus far I'm impressed. I'm about to place another order for my jon boat.

Classic Accessories StormPro Heavy-Duty Center Console Boat Cover Review:

I simply wanted to give this boat cover a huge thumbs up. With Hurricane Flo approaching, we used it for the first time on our 15' Mako Pro Skiff (center console). It was simple to put on, secured with ties, and did an excellent job of shielding it from the elements. Since we were unable to attach the center pole, there was a ponding of around 8 gallons of water (along with numerous leaves, twigs, and other debris) that remained in the cover for about a week before we had time to return to the area and empty it. The cover maintained its waterproofness and completely prevented water from entering the boat. Amazing. No wind-related tears or rips either. One thing to keep in mind is that the instructions recommend waiting a few weeks before using the cover on a new boat. Although we had to slightly extend the time constraints, there were no issues with color bleed. You guys rock for offering a fantastic product at a reasonable price.

AngLink Waterproof Boat Cover, Heavy Duty 600D Polyester Oxford Professional Bass Runabout Boat Cover, Durable and Tear Proof, All Weather Outdoor Protection Fits 17-19 feet V-Hull, Tri-Hull Review:

OMG! I'm very grateful I came upon this boat cover. Due to the superior quality, the price is fantastic. The materials were of the highest caliber, and the workmanship is comparable to that of other boat covers. I have spent my entire life around boats. The most important precaution for all boat owners is to keep the boat protected from the elements. The weather is the most challenging factor when sailing. The excellent web storage bag it came in was the first thing I noticed. The straps for this cover are the next item, and they're perhaps its best feature. These are not only rope, and I certainly did not anticipate that straps would be included. For my 17' aluminum boat with a modified hull and a 25 hp motor on the back, the straps are more than long enough. The cover is long enough to cover the front of my trailer, my outboard motor, and my trolling motor. I don't have a run-around boat. I was taking a chance that the cover wouldn't fit because it's a console. Well, bless my soul, you can clearly see in my pictures that it fits well. I indicated the contact places because my boat has a trolling motor on the front. In order to prevent the cover from tearing on the trolling motor or the front trailer hitch, I will take it to my neighborhood upholstery shop and have a sizable piece of reinforced canvas added as a protective layer. I've included images of the stitching as well. The double-stitched lapping fabric is readily visible. This boat cover comes highly recommended. For boats up to 18 feet length, it will be excellent. On a boat with a console, like mine, it will also perform admirably. You won't look back at this purchase in regret. You will see from a single glance that the quality will shield the boat from the weather for a number of years. You will be pleased, I believe, that you found this cover, and the price is fantastic.

Seamander Trailerable Runabout Boat Cover Fit V-Hull Tri-Hull Fishing Ski Pro-Style Bass Boats, Full Size Review:

Although I was dubious due to the cost, I was pleasantly delighted by the quality. It appears to be weather-resistant; I'll update after more time has gone. For my 1993 Bayliner 16' classic, I ordered the 14-16' with a 90" beam. I desired a tight fit, and this cover delivered because it features an elastic band and tie-down straps that are evenly spaced apart. The straps seem flimsy, so I might replace them with stronger or bungee tie downs. I also got the seamander outboard cover since I wasn't sure how far it would stretch to cover the outboard, but with the motor trimmed up, this cover is plenty. Since it has been raining for the past two days, I supported the cover with straps (available separately) from the bow to the stern to prevent pooling. The interior has remained dry. If you decide to trail with the cover on, I advise you to do so at your own risk. You might want to consider upgrading the straps for a more secure installation on the highway.Update: This cover has kept my boat dry in heavy rain for more than a month. It has faded slightly from exposure to sunlight, but nothing out of the ordinary.

PrimeShield Heavy Duty Outboard Motor Cover 600D Waterproof Motor Hood Cover Review:

For the price, this cover is acceptable... It seems to be rather sturdy and fits my 9.9 horsepower engine perfectly. Mine did have a tiny hole, but it was situated where it wouldn't really be a problem, so I decided to keep it. I think it was high quality for the price, and the hole was an accident that probably occurred during packaging or shipment. I would recommend it. Oh, and the writing, as shown in the image, is NOT on the cover. All of it was grey. I shared that with you because I believed it might be the reason the pricing was so reasonable, but it wasn't... decent insurance for the money.

PrimeShield Heavy Duty Waterproof Boat Cover for V-Hull Runabouts, Grey Review:

Recently, I've had some negative boat cover encounters. So, I have my doubts. For my fish and ski boat that is 17 and a half feet long, I purchased the 17 to 20 foot size D. The cover appeared too small when I rolled it out. However, it did stretch over the bow and the back motors. With a beautiful even overhang of 3 inches below the gunwhale all the way around the boat, it fits perfectly around the windscreen area. Ten to twelve nylon straps with plastic snaps are used to clip it down. Those snaps have broken when trailering in the past, which was an unpleasant experience. The cover will flap erratically and rip itself apart if a snap snaps. So, let's wait and see how that turns out. The rest has gone well so far.

MSC Heavy Duty 600D Marine Grade Polyester Canvas Trailerable Waterproof Boat Cover,Fits V-Hull,Tri-Hull, Runabout Boat Cover Review:

I just recently installed this cover on my boat. The pricing seems to be reasonable given the quality. It is made of medium weight cotton and is double stitched. Although there are several straps to secure the cover, I wouldn't tow my boat while it had a cover on. I won't know for sure until it starts to rain how waterproof it will be. It boiled down to this or a $500 custom cover, even though it obviously isn't a bespoke fit for my boat. The 20 to 22 foot cover was the ideal length for my Tige 20i (20 foot, model year 2000), which has a swim platform. As long as it will last a few years, I believe the purchase was a decent one overall.edit: I went and checked inside the boat to see if there was dampness in it after about 3 weeks with this new cover. I'm relieved to report that the boat was bone dry beneath the cover despite rain, cold weather, snow, and ice. I hope I can use the cover for a number of years because it is holding up well.

iCOVER Pontoon Boat Cover-Water Proof Heavy Duty,Fits Pontoon Boat 17ft to 24ft Long & Beam Width up to 102in,Grey PB6303. Review:

I have owned a number of boat covers, but this one is unlike some others in that it is well-made and the fabric is heavy enough that I believe it will last. In Florida, I keep a 22-foot sun tracker fishing barge outside. Because of the sturdy structure, high-quality sewing, and two layers of material encircling the loops, I think this unit will survive for a while. There were plenty of straps and materials to secure it when it was transported. It is big enough to cover the majority of the motor and the entire boat up to the rail on my 22 footer. I'm pleased with my purchase and the sturdy elastic material. When you first install it, pay close attention for the tag that reads "FRONT." Once you have it unrolled on the boat, it can take some adjusting to get it laid out properly, so if you get the front tag on the back, you might end up wishing you had gotten it on the front in the first place. Once you have that figured out, it's a matter of making sure the inside is inside and the outside is out. Apart from that, it's a very well-made boat cover that I believe will last for a very long time.

Classic Accessories StormPro Heavy Duty Boat Cover with Support Pole Review:

For the price of more over $80, this cover is excellent. I traveled about 1500 miles and through two significant downpours while towing this cover at speeds up to 80 mph without any issues. Although water resistant, the cover is not waterproof. As soon as we encountered our first downpour, I was returning with a kitchen table in the boat. The table was only slightly moist but not soaked when I pulled into a petrol station to check on it. I was afraid I would damage the table. We returned home while it was still softly raining, and when I opened the boat to take the table out, I saw that everything else was completely dry. A benefit was that the chairs and everything else were perfectly dry. Under the cover, I applied sponges and little towels to any corners and to the motor that I believed would be weak places or potential rip points. The fact that the cover even extended to the boat's motor shocked me as well. As I didn't see a need for it and wasn't sure if it was supposed to be utilized while trailering, I didn't use the accompanying center support pole. This cover endured remarkably well and nicely fits my 15-foot StarCraft. I'm pleasantly pleased that I could get such a good cover for very little money. About 600 miles into the return trip, photos were taken.

iCOVER Kayak Cover- Heavy Duty Kayak Canoe Case for Outdoor Storage and Travel, 10ft/13ft/16ft, Camo and Grey Review:

Excellent cover that, if removed with care, will last for roughly 5 seasons. You should drain it after rain because it is not waterproof in any manner. To protect them from the sun, I use them on my wooden ocean kayaks. Works well, however if your kayak only has a 21-inch beam, you will have a few extra feet of material around the middle because they are cut so large. That material will need to be gathered up in order to be hung on wall racks. I wish these were available in narrower sizes. To make the bottom one look neater, I added straps.
