Spices from Jackie's Kitchen are of excellent quality and cost a lot more. I've bought a number of spices from Jackie's Kitchen, and I've never been let down. I cook at home frequently and have tried every spice from top companies over the years, but I can honestly state that Jackie's Kitchen is at least as good as all the pricey brands. The addition of these bay leaves to simmering soups, rice, dry beans, and handmade stocks is delicious. Jackie's Kitchen spices are excellent, and I plan to keep purchasing them in the future.

Excellent for creating true Indian cuisine. Ghee should be melted in your pressure cooker's saute setting before adding flat cinnamon like this, whole black peppercorns, green and black cardamoms, whole cumin seeds, cloves, star anise, ginger-garlic paste, Indian bay leaves, salt, and few dried red chilies. Close the lid after adding some long-grain basmati rice, which you rinse and soak while preparing the other ingredients. Fry until the onions are transparent. While the pressure cooker works its magic, tidy up the kitchen. Add cilantro to the top when it beeps and enjoy! For a small change of pace, including a bag of frozen vegetables. If you don't mind eating meat, use 50% chicken broth and 50% water. DELICIOUS

When I was a child, a family joke about bay leaves was directed at me. My mother used to bake, but my father, who was an excellent cook, used to prepare the majority of the meals. He was especially talented at making vegetable and meat soups. No matter how many of us helped ourselves and sat down to eat, I always ended up with the bay leaves in my bowl since he usually put two or three bay leaves in the soups and stews. Always. No matter how carefully my father tried to get rid of them before we helped ourselves, there was always one left, and I always got it. Well, the soups were excellent. These bay leaves from Jackie's are excellent, and I used them in a beef stew the day they arrived as a tribute to all the bay leaves that found their way into my bowls. I'm not exactly sure how much flavor they add to a stew, but I believe they make a significant contribution to the flavor in general. These seem to be quite affordable to me as well; for the price, you receive 12 bottles, making each bottle just over a dollar. The Simply Organics that I typically purchase cost closer to $5 a bottle and are excellent herbs and spices. So good leaves make for good deals.

Wow! I've never seen a bag of bay leaves so large! I didn't really think about how much the bay leaves weigh, so I ordered the 1 lb bag. For the foreseeable future, I have plenty to keep the neighborhood in check, hehe. Having said that, the perfume was just divine when I opened the bag to fill my pint jar for the kitchen. I actually stood over the bag, inhaled deeply, closed my eyes, and began to visualize all the dishes I would make with them. Since I frequently use bay leaves and have friends in California who have a bay laurel bush, I would fill a gallon baggie with them anytime I went because store-bought bay leaves don't taste or smell nearly as delicious as freshly dried leaves. I regrettably no longer have any bay leaves because my friends sold their house, and I won't pay grocery store pricing for leaves with no discernible aroma. I frequently purchase bulk spices and herbs from Frontier because I am confident in their product's quality. As a result, I ordered the 1 pound bag, but when it arrived, it was seriously smaller than a child pillow. I filled up two food-grade 2 gallon buckets, sealed them, and placed them in my cold storage cupboard. I also handed my neighbor a sizable baggie (also a foodie). If I live that long, I won't need to buy bay leaves until 2050, hehe. Highly advised, just make sure you purchase the appropriate quantity.

The herb is used most widely in Mediterranean (Turkish ,Italian Greek ) cooking, but since it was one of the earliest and most widely traded spices, bay has become an established seasoning in many cuisines around the world - most noticeably Indian, the Middle Eastern , and many European cuisines. It's also one of the main ingredients in a classic French bouquet garni.

WHAT IS BAY LEAF : The aromatic leaf from the bay laurel tree, it is an essential component of the classic bouquet garni: parsley, thyme and a bay leaf. The bittersweet, spicy leaves impart their pungent flavour to a variety of dishes and ingredients, making bay a versatile store cupboard ingredient. It’s also one of the few herbs that doesn’t lose its flavour when dried.
HOW TO USE BAY LEAF : Bay leaf is typically used to season long-cooking dishes like soups, stews, and braises, but it can also enhance the flavor of quicker-cooking dishes like risotto, pasta sauce, or even a simple pot of rice. The key is to have at least a little liquid for the bay to infuse and heat to get the process going.

Great Bay Leaves, these. I now have enough bay leaves to last the rest of my life and perhaps the life of my son as well. I never gave the size of this bag a thought. I got it because I think it will be just as excellent as the reviews claimed. I've read that putting bay leaves in the cupboards will deter insects, so I'll give it a try for ants and spiders this year since it's ant season. They aren't in my home or cabinets yet, but I have faith they will. LOL However, the much-needed rain takes care of that once we spray outside. I used a large 1-gallon jar to store the bay leaves. I'll provide an update on the flavor after using it in my soups, stews, and chowders. Then, I suppose I'll either/or share what's left or include it in my will. I'm not exaggerating; there are a lot of leaves here. I purchased these to use in my kitchen. I simply burned a few leaves in a good stainless steel shallow dish as instructed by the bag. I'm not sure I'll do much of that because my husband dislikes the smell and I'm not sure how I feel about it. A few leaves are boiled in a few glasses of water to examine how the flavor affects the water. The product date of December 1, 2018 is one oddity or error on the packaging. LOL Use by or Good till December 2021.I had a question about whether or not this was organic. Although the packaging is attractive, natural is NOT organic. I'll apply these.

It is possible to find bay leaves, also known as bay laurel or "Laurus nobilis," in France, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Yugoslavia, China, Israel, Turkey, and Russia. The precise region of harvest for our jar, however, won't be disclosed, so don't worry. It is kosher and USDA-certified organic. Why is that crucial? Many spices are handled with chemicals (pesticides and herbicides), have GMOs, and have been irradiated, just like non-organic food. The majority of us don't have a great deal of experience with irradiation. When bacteria and other pollutants are eliminated by radiation, fewer vitamins and natural enzymes remain in the completed product. A spice's chemical makeup can be altered by irradiation, potentially resulting in the production of hazardous or cancer-causing byproducts in the food. Additionally, radiation exposes us to additional free radicals. Yikes! The majority of spices marketed in the US are fumigated (sterilized) using substances that are prohibited in Europe. Dangerous material Thankfully, the Simply Organic collection offers a cost-effective substitute. I don't have a reviewer endorsement, but I truly enjoy their spices. I also don't want to come out as "preachy," but we really should pay attention to what we put in our bodies. I'll keep going...In the jar, there are roughly 25 complete leaves. Several are damaged, but it is to be anticipated. They are strong and ideal for your gravies, stews, and soups. We are vegetarians and rely largely on the bay leaf to give our bean dishes a good bitter/sweet flavor. The large glass jar (Glass, that is! It is easily recyclable, repurposed, or reusable.) comes with a metal screw-on top and a plastic shaker cap. In order to avoid staleness or loss of strength, it is crucial to verify the expiration date on our spices. To ensure that you are not purchasing out-of-date goods, Simply Organic bottles feature a "best by" date on the bottom.Keep in mind to keep all of your spices in a cold, dark place.Happy eating!

They were packaged for freshness when I just received my order, and they smell amazing! The majority of the excellent leaves are entire leaves. As you can anticipate, some leaves will break because they are dried leaves, so you have to be prepared for that, but most of mine were whole. I don't have any smashed, minute pieces because the plastic jar they were sealed in was quite tight. I make sachets to ward off insects, use bay leaves in cooking, and make incense with them. Using 4 to 5 leaves per sachet, I created 50 of my usual spring sachets today, and I still have 3/4 of the container left. There are therefore a ton of leaves there.

Because I use a lot of bay in my sauces and gumbos, I purchased them some time ago. I only received 1 bag instead of the stated 2 bags, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because it appears that there are more than 3 oz. of the leaves. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. Maybe they just chose to send one bigger bag. I can't be certain because there is no quantity on the bag.

Bay leaf has been used as a laxative for centuries. The leaves of the bay tree contain a compound called parthenolide, which has laxative properties. Parthenolide is thought to work by stimulating the production of prostaglandins, which are hormones that help to regulate the contraction and relaxation of the muscles in the intestine. This action can help to move stool through the intestine and relieve constipation.
