Updated review: As time went on, I had to purchase a new bath mat. I placed an order for something mold-resistant. I tried it in my bathtub, but I don't feel comfortable standing on it. I'll continue to use THIS brand because it made me feel safer. FYI, the other I had ordered felt more like plastic than this one does. With this one, THE suction works well.does the job and is faultless. When you enter and exit the bathtub, the floor seems more secure because it is nice and long. Although not all suction cups will stick, those that do are sufficient.

The product is attractive and the ideal size for my tiny shower. As I wander around the shower, it gently drifts around on the tile floor, requiring me to periodically recenter it over the drain. The stench when it was fresh and still in the plastic was my major gripe. It took several weeks for the odor to totally disappear. This large machine-washable shower mat satisfied my need for one of those. It is large (27" X 27") and has been washed in my washing machine (on a slow, delicate cycle). It endures nicely. Keep in mind that it probably won't fit a regular bathtub. It works well in the shower stall where I use it. Additionally, it is sturdy and won't move about on your shower floor.I had to remove a star because I think it's quite slick. Use only if you are extremely sure-footed. To keep my feet from slipping, I'm planning to get some traction stickers or something similar. Even though I'm not a big person (5'7"; 160 lbs.) and am fortunate to have good balance, I've come dangerously close to falling several times while reaching for a towel. A fantastic product overall.

Rating this item is a little difficult. It is really nicely crafted and feels great on the feet, plus it works amazingly well to prevent us from slipping in the shower (meaning it is not rough, it is not so smooth as to be slippery, and it keeps your feet well planted). You feel safe standing on this mat since it doesn't slide around; it stays put where you put it. We don't use in the bathtub because we don't take baths, but I'm sure it would function just as well there. Overall, it is deserving of a 4 star rating, although there may be some cons for other people.Now for the unpleasant and unexpected part. While suds do not, water does pass through it and down the drain. This is why many have stopped using shower/bath mats in the first place: if you were to just leave the mat in the stall all the time, I have no doubt you'd end up with a gunky soap scum effect on the shower floor. BUT performing what I originally meant to do will be simple enough to fix this issue. I just raise the mat when I've finished showering and rinse it. As a result, a "soap scum free" mat is left in the path of the soap suds flowing down the drain. The mat is then simply adhered loosely to the shower's side wall so that it can air dry. Done, and the issue is resolved. The next time you take a shower, all you have to do is grab the mat, place it on the shower floor, press down on the sides to produce the suction that will keep it in place, and then continue to shower without slipping.I opted for the mat over appliques because I've seen a ton of negative reviews about those items. Anti-slip tape was something I considered as well, but I also read a lot of negative reviews. There are holes all throughout this mat, and water flows through them extremely well. The soap suds are simply not flowing through it because there is no water backing up in the system. Not what I anticipated, but it can be fixed quickly.Overall, I'd purchase it again and do suggest it to others. But only if you don't mind having to rinse it off after each use—a very easy chore since the product gives you the confidence to bathe or shower without worrying about slipping.
