Best Basic Cat Bowls in 2020

Van Ness - Ecoware Cat Dish, Renewable & Sustainable Bamboo Plant Material, Shallow & Wide Bowl, Whisker Friendly, Non-Skid Silicone Bottom, Unbreakable, BPA-Free (8 oz Capacity) Review:

I foster cats and kittens and I'm very happy with these bowls. They are durable and stand up to hand and dishwasher washing. They don't scratch easily, I have 6 and have yet to scratch 1 even washing and feeding more than once a day. I bought them before I researched them thoroughly, but I'm happy to say that they are biodegradable, except for perhaps the silicone. I contacted the company about the content of the bowls and this is the information they gave me:

Thank you for contacting us.

The ECO products are made from a plastic resin substitute called bio-composite, which consists entirely of plant material.
92%-95% is made of plant fibers from bamboo grass and rice husks.
5%-8% is made of an organic binding agent (glucose/amino acids).
The ECO products are degradable back to the earth.

I hope this information is helpful.

UPSKY Double Cat Bowls Cute Modeling Food Water Feeder No-Slip Stainless Steel Rabbit & Pet Bowls Review:

These bowls are great wanted to get away from using plastic bowls for many reasons. One was to keep the cats from baping the bowls off the table they are on the little rubber feet on downside keeps that from occurring. Easy to clean and a 5.5 can fits well in one bowl. Didn't use the stickers for eyes that came with only because I figured they'd come off down the road and may be ingested.

URPOWER Dog Bowls Stainless Steel Dog Bowl with No Spill Non-Skid Silicone Mat 53 oz Feeder Bowls Pet Bowl for Dogs Cats and Pets Review:

I have a 7 month old kitten who is already 10 lbs and strong as heck. He loves to dip his paw in his water and knock the bowl around, spilling it every time. I've tried all kinds of bowls, but nothing was ever heavy enough to foil his attempts to bat it around. I tried a plastic tray underneath it, which would catch most of the spill, but then he'd just splash around in the tray and track the water all over. I tried bowls with "non-skid" bottoms, but they were still far too light. The combination of the depth of these bowls, and the silicone tray, makes it much more difficult to get the whole thing moving enough to spill. He can still dip his paw of course, nothing can stop that, but if you have a cat you can't expect to be able to stop *every* mess they make. I got the larger size with the 53oz bowls on accident, and at first he was reluctant to use them, I think because he had to put his head in so deep that he couldn't see anything outside the bowl. But with a few days time, he's warming up to them. I put a few treats in there to encourage him at first. I could have exchanged for the smaller size but ultimately I think the extra depth will help continue to stop the spills in the future as he gets even bigger. In sum, good solution for a cat who likes to play in/with water.

Vitalumos Dog Water Bowl, Dog Bowl No-Spill Pet Water Bowl, Slow Water Feeder Dog Bowl, Vehicle Carried Dog Water Bowl for Dogs/Cats/Pets Review:

I love this bowl, I think the idea is genius and it really works well. I have two dogs with beards and with this bowl I no longer deal with wet floors from the dripping beards after every drink (water stains on carpet are a real issue). The water stays much cleaner and they learned how to use it right away. My one issue with it is that even though it took maybe a couple of weeks but water did get inside the disk. I opened it up and dumped it, cleaned it and wondered why they didn’t just seal it shut. Once you open it it seems to become looser, so less and less time goes by between times of needing to dump water out of the disk, now I have to do it every couple of days. It’s very annoying because it’s tough to open and I feel like it won’t be long before it will be useless.

I’ve docked a star for this issue. This item would be perfect if they just sealed the disk closed so that it’s waterproof. Do that and it’s a perfect product.

HoneyGuaridan A36 Automatic Pet Feeder, Dog, Cat, Rabbit & Small Animals Food Dispenser with Stainless Steel Pet Food Bowl, Portion Control and Voice Recording - Batteries and Power Adapter Support Review:

My schedule doesn't allow me to consistently space out meals they way they need to be and my cat binges if given all its food at once. I chose this feeder based primarily on its basic functionality and modern styling. I didn't care for excess features such as wifi connectivity, webcams, and phone apps that many other feeders come with. I have had no issues so far with any feeder jams but larger-sized food is definitely more likely to get jammed. Programming is quite simple if you follow the directions. According to the product details, 1 portion = 0.3 oz, however, I found to be inaccurate. I found that setting the portion to 14 delivered approximately 8 oz (1 cup) of food which is the recommended daily feeding amount for the food I use. Based on 4 feedings, I used portions 4,3,3,4. I would highly recommend first testing out what portion # provides you with the daily recommended amount based on the food you are using and then divide that number throughout the day. I dont use the recording feature because the food hitting the bowl was enough. Overall, I am very happy with this product.

PROS:
- Hopper is sealed and latches tight for both freshness and security.
- Hopper capacity (13 cups) holds over a week of food for 1-2 small animals.
- Easily see food level through side window.
- Easily program up to 6 meals with consistent portion delivery.
- Unit is compact, functional, and not easily tipped.
- Bowl does not slide away from the dispenser and cause spills.
- Blue light alerts to jams or on empty.
- 3 sec lock feature prevents accidental setting changes.
- Easily provide additional portions at any time by pressing +/- together.
- Battery backup.
- Easy disassembly for cleaning.
- Doesn't look like a cat, astronaut helmet, or other cheesy design.
- Reasonable price and made by a trusted and well-established manufacturer.

CONS:
- Would not work well for indivual feeding sizes of >2 cups of food as bowl is fairly small.
- Multi-bowl divider and extra bowl sold separately.
- Larger food more likely to become jammed.

K & H Manufacturing KH ThermoKitty Cafe Bowl Review:

Product Description says Thermostatically Controled but that is erroneous. Nowhere on the actual item's literature is this claim made; some other K&H products such as their Heated Beds do offer such a feature so perhaps that's where this error came from. Never the less the Thermo-Kitty Café does seem to warm my outdoor kitties' bowls to the appropriate degree so for the current price it's okay. Paired with Farm Innovators Model TC-3 Cold Weather Thermo Cube Thermostatically Controlled Outlet - On at 35-Degrees/Off at 45-Degrees (under Frequently Bought Together) it will at least not remain on, cooking your pet's food and wasting electricity, when it warms up outside.

Only other gripe is that instead of the adorable Maine Coon pictured, I somehow ended up with a real live raccoon. Okay it's pretty gosh darn cute too, but still.

Hubulk Pet Dog Bowls 2 Stainless Steel Dog Bowl with No Spill Non-Skid Silicone Mat + Pet Food Scoop Water and Food Feeder Bowls for Feeding Small Medium Large Dogs Cats Puppies Review:

This bowl is AMAZING! This is my dog Rexy who is 16 and now blind. I keep him in this padded area so he doesn’t hurt himself when I’m not home and I like to leave him food and water. I had the bowls that attach to the pen but he kept bumping them and that left him with no water. I ordered this thinking it might work and I was surprised at how well! I’ve seen bowls that sit inside the silicone mats but with this the bowls are COMPLETELY inside the sleeve. So he can bump it, but not dump it! I ordered the medium and while they seem small they are very deep - another plus for a blind dog! The mat is big enough to catch spills and drips - even when he bumps it, so his area stays drier and cleaner too. I am very, very pleased and would highly recommend the bowl set. Can you see the bowl in the lower right corner in the photo?

Bergan Stainless Steel Non-Skid/Non-Tip Pet Bowl with Ridges Review:

Nice quality and decent weight on the stainless steel with decent non skid bottom for the price. This is not an expensive high end weighted bowl and I don't believe it would hold up well for outdoor use. The stainless outside is nice for easy cleanup. I personally would not put it in the dishwasher because the high temps and detergents cause most elastomers like rubber to fail pretty quickly. I use it as a cat food bowl. Its wide enough that I don't end up with kibbles all over the floor from my less than dainty 20lb feline grazers. With smaller bowls I end up with crumbs and dropped kibble everywhere around the bowl on the floor and this wider bowl eliminates the problem. The non skid works well and its heavy enough it stays in one spot for that use. I am guessing most people would use it as a dog bowl. I have large breed dogs 100lbs+ and while the capacity is great for large breeds, its not heavy enough or non skid enough to keep them from pushing or flipping the bowl. But it is outstanding bowl for smaller sized sloppy eaters!
