Best Automotive Replacement Windshield Wiper Refills in 2022

Last update: December 5, 2022

Are all wiper inserts the same?

No, all wiper inserts are not the same. Wiper inserts come in a variety of materials, sizes, and shapes to fit different windshields. The three most common wiper insert materials are rubber, silicone, and urethane. The size and shape of the insert also affects how well it wipes the windshield.

Are factory wiper blades better than aftermarket?

Factory wiper blades are made to work with your specific vehicle. Aftermarket wiper blades may not fit as well, and may not work as well.

Are windshield wiper refills universal?

The answer is no, windshield wiper refills are not universal. Each vehicle has its own specific wiper refill size and shape. You can usually find the right size and shape refill by consulting your vehicle’s owner’s manual or by asking a staff member at your local auto parts store.

Can you refill wiper blades?

You can usually refill wiper blades with washer fluid, but it is best to check your owner’s manual first. Many wiper blades have a reservoir that can be filled with washer fluid, and some have a small hole that needs to be filled with a needle. If your wiper blades do not have a reservoir, you can usually still refill them with washer fluid by carefully pouring it onto the blade.

Trico 45-190 Narrow Wiper Blade Refill - 475mm (1 Refill) Review:

I purchased Trico 45-240 (600 x 8mm) and 45-190 (475 x 6mm) wiper blade refills for my 2002 Honda Accord's driver and passenger 'narrow' OEM wiper blades. Both wiper refills arrived safely and securely in a solid 5x5x36 inch Amazon box despite being transported separately from several Amazon locations. The rubber-only refills I was changing from Honda have part numbers 76622-S84-A01 (600mm) and 76632-S5A-003 (475mm).My Accord OEM wipers' claws fit each Trico refill perfectly. To maintain correct windshield-trim clearance on the outer passenger side, it was necessary to move the metal rail inserts down towards one end of the passenger rubber blade, but that modest change was simple enough (no tools required).I always value criticism... Please select "Yes" if you found this review useful in the box below. Thanks. Here are a few minor distinctions between these and the Honda brand for those who would like additional information:1) Honda refills are merely rubber; the metal rail inserts must be reused. Trico refills include brand-new metal rail inserts as well (also removable). The Trico metal rail inserts have the same width and thickness as the Honda metal rails, however they are somewhat shorter.2) A stretchable plastic bag is used to package the Honda rubber-only refills. Refills for Trico (with metal rail inserts) are housed in a durable plastic box.See the image or photo attached for a view of numbers 3 and 4.3) The claw locking-tab on the Honda metal rail inserts for the Accord blade is shaped toward one end of the rubber refill. The claw locking-tab on the Trico rubber refill is shaped toward one end of the metal rail inserts and is smooth. Either the Trico tab is a part of the metal rail and not the rubber blade, locking the refill to the end wiper claw.4) The Honda rubber refills' closed ends prevent the metal rail inserts from slipping out of the rubber blade's end. The Trico refill rubbers' insert grooves don't have closed ends. In order to prevent the rubber blade from slipping after the refill is locked into place, the metal rail inserts contain a few sharp spikes close to the locking-tab end that pierce into the blade. The apparent distinctions end there. As an alternative to the Honda dealer brand, these Trico 45-240 (600 x 8mm)

PIAA 94070 Silicone Wiper Blade Refill, 28" (Pack of 1) Review:

Acuras have these peculiar wipers, and I've ordered a few that claim to fit Acuras but don't. I glanced at an Acura site where one of the writers praised the PIAA wipers for the car. Please keep in mind PIAA 94048 and PIAA 94070.The wiper blades are installed on my 19" and 28" by removing the arm cover and the two screws holding the wiper blade holder to the wiper arm. Because these screws are so tight, it is advised that you use a cordless impact screwdriver. After being taken off, you just unclip the old wiper blades, put the new ones in, and then install them again by going backwards. There is no window chatter with these blades, which is something I observed. Non-silicone wipers chatter little during initial wear and significantly during the last stages of wear. If you own an RL, you'll know that my windshield functions flawlessly in either winter mode or summer mode thanks to these wipers, which were incredibly slick.Worth the additional money, and Prime shipping was timely (2 days).

PIAA 94048 Silicone Wiper Blade Refill, 19" (Pack of 1) Review:

For my Mazda3 I Touring Hatchback from 2013: The 19 "(Passenger) The 6mm broad PIAA refill fit perfectly. The 14 "The 6mm broad PIAA refill for the rear window fit perfectly, but it was challenging to insert it into the old blade because it had catches at both ends to keep it from slipping out. The 24 "(Driver) The claws on the original blade were 6mm wide, therefore the 8mm wide PIAA refill did not fit. I don't know if any of the blades are original. In the end, I spent $8.50 at Wal**** on a 24" Rain-X Expert Fit Conventional blade that is 8mm wide, and the PIAA 24" refill fits well even though it is 1/2 inch wide "shorter. You'll want to double check the width of the Rain-X Expert Fit Conventional blades in the various lengths because I'm not sure. I went to Wal**** with a caliper to find the proper blade for the PIAA refill. My recommendation is to measure your current blades to see if they are 6mm or 8mm wide. Consider which refills, if any, will fit given that refills 24" and longer are 8mm broad and those less than 24mm are 6mm. It's possible that you'll need to purchase a new blade whose width matches the PIAA refill width for the required length. To avoid having to cut the metal strips, think about cutting a longer refill to fit and potentially using the metal strips from your previous blade in the new refill.

Silicone Windshield Wiper Blades Refills 26” 2pcs Review:

Like many of you, I have likely pondered why they stopped offering refills. (Perhaps they do, but I was unable to find any when I looked.) In any event, I couldn't resist taking a chance on these. It's true. I gave installation four stars even though I wouldn't call it simple. The next time I perform an installation, I want to record it on video. Getting the old pieces out without damaging the originals, which are sun-beaten, is the most difficult task. It depends on the design, in my opinion. Finding a workaround for the manner it is secured in place is the difficulty. For me, applying a little pressure was enough to separate one of the three "holders" from the wiper. Once that was in the air, it was simple. The metal strips are "strange" to put together and hold, but once you slide them in, it's a thing of beauty. It gives the impression that one has "beaten the system," if you get what I mean.:-)It might be helpful to temporarily hold them together with tape or rubber bands.

PIAA 94055 Silicone Wiper Blade Refill, 22" (Pack of 1) Review:

I don't write many reviews, but because I like Amazon a lot and it seems to be one of the greatest online sources for product reviews, I thought I'd share my thoughts on PIAA silicone wiper blade refills and how I solved fitment issues. The best silicone wiper blade refills, in my opinion, can be found on Amazon for a reasonable price (must love the free shipping too!). I had previously used PIAA silicone refills from Amazon to replace the wiper blades on my truck without incident. They function admirably and fit wonderfully. So it only seemed sense that when the time came to swap out the wiper blades on my 2006 Honda Odyssey, I would resort to PIAA silicone refills from Amazon. The 22" 94055 and the 26" 94065 are the sizes listed by the "Find Parts That Fit Your Vehicle" locator on Amazon (as well as on PIAA's website). Unfortunately, I was disappointed to see that the 22" blade is too thin for my Odyssey's passenger side wiper claw when I tried to install them. The issue is that both the driver's side and passenger's side wipers on my Odyssey have claws that are 5/16 inch wide. The PIAA 15" - 22" silicone blade refills are 1/4" (6mm) broad, whereas the 24" - 28" blades are 5/16" (8mm), which is something Amazon neglects to mention, but which I ultimately and fortunately learned at [...].When the idea struck me that all I needed to do was get a 24" blade and use a Dremel to cut 2" off to use instead of the overly narrow 22" 94055, I was going to return everything and buy another brand of wipers. The 26" driver-side blade fits perfectly without any adjustments.Interestingly, the PIAA blades work fine for my other car, a '04 Acura TL, which has a broader 5/16" claw width for the longer 26" driver side blade and a narrower 1/4" claw width for the shorter 19" passenger side blade. Therefore, before getting these excellent wiper blade refills, be sure to measure the lengths and widths of your current wiper blades!***********************************************October 16, 2013 update: I installed three pairs of PIAA wiper refills, and all three of them are still in use. They still wipe smoothly and don't appear to be torn or cracked. These wiper blades are the most durable and effective I have ever used.An explanation regarding my initial post is needed. I only use the refill inserts as direct replacements for the OEM rubber disposable components of the OEM wiper blades on my vehicles because I don't actually own the PIAA Super Silicone wiper blade units that the reviewed product is designed to suit. They fit my Ford truck and Acura automobile perfectly, as previously indicated, and my Odyssey van almost perfectly, subject to the aforementioned limitation. Maybe there's a standard in the business that I'm not aware of.

PIAA 94065 Silicone Wiper Blade Refill, 26" (Pack of 1) Review:

Fitment: I used them as replacement blades for my 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i's RainX Latitude blades. Of course, they needed to have the length trimmed to fit the blade, but I didn't anticipate having to cut the mounting ridge down the full length of the silicone. I was under the notion from reviews that they would just fit, but it was actually rather simple to accomplish with a razor and with care. This only somewhat disappointed me. The previous set of refills I bought were too small and simply dropped out, but at least these could be adjusted to function.Performance: These blades are without a doubt the quietest I've ever used. I've been using these for a few months and they're great; they feel soft and smooth to the touch. My only real gripe is that there is a very little haze of streaking when using Bug Cutter Rainx, the orange thing, but to be fair, that might be the rainx itself.

VORCOOL Car Frameless Windshield Wiper Blade Refills 24 Inches 26 Inches Pack of 2 Review:

These arrived today, 3/4/2019, and they were exactly what was described. One measured 24 inches, the other 26. They were two distinct parts. I had read a review that claimed the person only received 1 piece and had to cut it, but that wasn't what I got. For my 2004 Dodge 3500 pickup application, two 24 "Before ordering these, I measured the wiper blades already installed on the truck to make sure I required them. Remember that you might need to reuse components from your wiper blade assembly in order to use these. I would suggest waiting to dispose of anything until the new installation is finished. Both the wiper blade housing, which attaches to the wiper arm, and two thin metal strips that insert into the top edge of the new wiper blade material must be reused. When you take the old blade out of the housing, it should be simple to observe. Without a hitch, I completed my installation, and I only had to reduce the 26 "of the blade.

Trico 47-800 8mm Break to Fit Narrow Refill - 17" to 26" (Sold as Pair) Review:

These are ideal for true do-it-yourselfers who want to save money by replacing the inserts rather than the entire blade.I see that many of the negative reviews come from customers who may have been trying to find an easier alternative or who didn't take the time to make sure their current car still had the same blades. These are excellent alternatives that will help you save money if you're prepared to put in a little time. Before replacing, I was able to use this for two years (southern California climate)First things first: Double-check the condition of your car's wipers. Check to see if the present wipers are the same size, thickness, and form. The Amazon Vehicle guidelines may be useful, but they were wrong for my vehicle, so I wouldn't rely on them. In one of my autos, the driver's side required an 8mm and the passenger's side a 6mm. One more employs 8mm on both sides.Second, be ready to put in some effort. Swapping the inserts is not an easy task. It will take you 15 minutes to finish everything without getting frustrated. The inserts (and metal retainers) must be carefully cut and trimmed before being "threaded" into numerous clips on the preexisting blades. Each insert has a wiper and two metal stiffeners.

PIAA 94045 Silicone Wiper Blade Refill, 18" (Pack of 1) Review:

I haven't looked back since discovering these PIAA wipers eight years ago. All of my family's vehicles only have these wipers since they are excellent for the money, perform flawlessly, and leave no streaks or smudges. They also last a long time—between 3 and 5 years, depending on how much rain you receive. Yes, you could pay a little bit more, but the value is significantly more. Quality Durability=Longevity. These wipers are amazing, and I've told all my friends and coworkers about them. I've occasionally read some semi-negative reviews here, but I have to assume that either they purchased the wrong size or didn't pay attention to the distinction between the all-in-one wiper blade and wiper blade refill.
