Idler arms are one of the most important components of your vehicle's steering system, and they can wear out over time. If you notice that your vehicle is starting to wander or drift while driving, it could be a sign that your idler arm is starting to fail. If you notice any unusual wear or damage to your idler arm, it's important to have it checked out by a professional as soon as possible.
The pitman arm is a key component of the steering system in a vehicle. It is attached to the steering box and is responsible for converting the rotational motion of the steering wheel into the linear motion that turns the wheels. Without the pitman arm, the steering system would not be able to function.
If your car is starting to make a creaking noise when you turn the wheel, it may be time to replace the pitman arm. The pitman arm is responsible for connecting the steering wheel to the rest of the steering components. Over time, it can become worn down and need to be replaced.

I bought this component for my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel along with the updated 3rd generation "T-Style" steering so I could upgrade the steering on my truck to the 4th generation. The diameter of the new pitman arm is too large to have a snug fit on the steering box splined shaft when I finally removed the factory pitman arm and tried to properly install it. I think this Pitman Arm wasn't designed for the Rams from the 2001 model year. I am making do with the second generation pitman arm affixed to the third generation steering right now, but I would prefer to obtain the right angle pitman arm with a smaller diameter splined hole. Please let me know if you are aware of one. Many thanks

I'm happy with the pricing and quality of this, which I bought along with the Idler arm and arm bracket. Let's talk about mounting it on a 1995 Tahoe 4WD. If, like me, you have 4WD, you're in serious trouble. Without taking out the steering gear, it is impossible to remove the pitman arm. A cross-member that is directly underneath and welded to the frame of 4WD vehicles makes it impossible to insert the removal tool. However, you ought to be able to press a 33mm (1 5/16) wrench against the frame there while having a helper crank the steering wheel to help you loosen the nut. Be cautious!

To remove the Pitman arm from my Dodge 3500, I purchased this. The front end appears to have been worked on previously, and the best I can infer is that an impact was GROSSLY overused. To avoid breaking anything, I kept trying to be gentle with the puller, but the circumstance wasn't conducive to that. Therefore, I tightened the retainers down and began working with my impact wrench in the hopes that something would give. I was surprised to see that this arm puller took the blow and came off with a boom.

Flying with AC Delco Professional is recommended. Although the Professional line is far more robust than the equivalent parts in the ACDelco Advantage line, the idler mount, arm, and pitman arm cost only slightly more overall. They are employed by GMT 800 trucks. Given the frame of these trucks, I highly recommend the OTC 6496 Close Quarters Pitman Arm Puller for Truck/SUV; it's the finest $60 you'll ever spend. This provided a significant improvement to the ride quality of my truck at highway speeds in addition to resolving the tire wear concerns with the original idler and pitman arms! All the ball joints and tie rods were lubricated with Mystik JT-6 Hi-Temp lithium-complex grease. It has excellent specifications and is a high-temperature grease for wheel bearings (they do list it as a chassis grease).

This pitman arm was recently reordered. It broke on me shortly after I purchased it six years ago. The steering wheel began to spin freely as I was backing out of a parking place and I heard a loud pop sound. A closer look revealed that the steering link's connection to the pitman arm had completely broken off. Just the fact that it didn't occur on a freeway makes me happy. To my astonishment, the guarantee on my truck is only good for three years even though I don't damage it or take it off-road. This pitman arm is great quality, so I did reorder it. I'm simply amazed that it actually broke on me. Never before have I saw one snap off so violently.
There are typically two pitman arms in a car – one on each side. Each pitman arm is connected to the steering linkage, which helps to transfer the motion of the steering wheel to the wheels of the car.
It can cost anywhere from $30 to $200+ to replace an idler arm. The cost will depend on the make and model of your vehicle, where you get it replaced, and if you do it yourself.
It can cost anywhere from $100-$400+ to replace an idler arm and pitman arm. The cost will depend on the make/model of your car, the quality of the parts, and if you have it done at a dealership or by a mechanic.
A pitman arm is a steering component in a vehicle's steering system. It is the link between the steering box and the steering linkage. The pitman arm is attached to the steering shaft and turns as the steering wheel is turned. The other end of the pitman arm is connected to the steering linkage, which transfers the motion of the pitman arm to the wheels.
A pitman arm is a component of a vehicle's suspension system. It is a link between the steering wheel and the suspension, and is used to transfer steering input to the suspension. The pitman arm is attached to the steering wheel via the steering shaft, and to the suspension via the suspension linkage.
