Just be certain you use the same kind of oil that you use in the car. So to say, it is a sacrificial quart. It is highly effective to do this. If the rinse oil isn't too nasty when it comes out, you can use it again to rinse away debris during your next oil change. This will allow you to see what is being washed out. Because it was primarily made for MOTORCYCLES, where the filter is low and exposed to road debris and greater temperatures, it is heavier and uses thicker metal. It can also be applied to a variety of other vehicle types when this thickness is not necessary. The NAPA that another reviewer mentioned is made to the same basic specifications but is intended for use in automobiles. The majority of filters this size use internal plastic components that are prone to failure, have far less durable construction, a smaller capacity to store contaminants, and much less filtering material than the Bosch. For instance, the micron rating of a similar FRAM filter I previously used is significantly lower, but the plastic internal collar will melt and let contaminated oil through the seal. I was the victim of it. You can tell the changes in quality by cutting them apart. There are several other excellent filters available, some of which are even slightly better, but none of them come close to this cost. I don't work for Bosch, but I purchase a lot of filters for a variety of bikes and have tried them all. Because I frequently ride long distances on my motorcycle to isolated regions and cannot afford to get stuck, I always carry these Bosch filters.
