If your car has an electric fuel pump, it shouldn’t have any problem working intermittently. However, if your car has a mechanical fuel pump, it may have trouble working if it isn’t getting a constant flow of oil.
Yes, fuel pumps can be rebuilt. Fuel pumps are a common wear item on vehicles, and over time they can start to fail. When this happens, it's often cheaper to rebuild the pump than it is to replace it.
If your car has a mechanical fuel pump, you can replace it with an electric fuel pump. The main advantage of an electric fuel pump is that it can be located anywhere in the fuel system, whereas a mechanical fuel pump must be mounted on the engine.

This was purchased for a 1974 IH 464 powered by a gas C-175 engine. This served as a straight substitution. A few fittings did need to be changed, but that was to be expected. The steel cap at the top isn't painted, which makes it vulnerable to rust, and that's the only thing I didn't like (the main body is cast Al). IH red was lightly painted on it before installation. The pump operates flawlessly; it powered my tractor for an hour without breaking down. If you have a C175 engine and your fuel pump is dripping fuel outside, I highly recommend this. Just remember that if it's dripping externally, it's also spilling gas into the crankcase, so don't keep running with a leaky pump and change the engine oil once it's rectified!

Although it does not fit the 351C, the item is very well crafted and of high quality. Instead, I ordered the proper Carter pump for the 351C after returning this one. Amazon incorrectly claimed that this was the proper pump. The top bolt is difficult to reach and must be removed in order to access it, but it fits perfectly. To ensure there are no leaks, I advise using Ultra Black RTV silicone rather than the included gaskets to attach this pump to the block. In order to ensure smooth operation, I lubricated the pump arm before installing it.

Installed this on a 1986 Chris Craft Cavalier powered by a 200 HP Mercruiser 200 (Chevy 305). Although there weren't many reviews, I decided to take a chance because it looked just like my original, and one of the reviews mentioned my engine. The price is great compared to the $185 OEM Part that I couldn't find anywhere, and when I did, it took 1 1/2 weeks to ship while my boat was sitting in our vacation dock. The engine started up after the second crank after I had it fitted and ran smoothly with a little assistance from little ether. It didn't come with a gasket, so I had to run to the next auto parts store to get one. When they searched for the right one, they discovered that it was a fuel pump for a 350 Chevy engine, which is why it only gets 4 stars. Who knows how long it will last, but given the price and the fact that it was helpful in an emergency, who cares?

For my mower's ONAN P220, vacuum fuel pump replacement part number #149-1982 was required. I got the pump, but as soon as I tried to connect one of the fuel lines, a nipple snapped off. WAIT! The seller stated in the technical data that the pump was made of metal. Nope. There are only metal front and back plates. Be careful because the plastic block in the middle. Had to ship back right away to the vendor for an exchange, and the new pump dutifully arrived a few days later. It was first difficult to figure out how to connect the gasoline lines, but it turned out that only one side of the pump is utilized because it has nipple caps that are simple to remove. Fuel tank is "IN," and the carburetor is "OUT." Your gasoline lines might need to be extended for it to function. The other pump nipple side is/was not utilized. I would make another buy from this seller. Given that there was also a gasoline filter and some fuel line clamps, the price was excellent. However, because the clamps were too small to fit the fuel line on my lawn mower, I will use them on other machines I own if necessary.

Gas was leaking from the block onto me. I was right when I suspected the prior aftermarket pump's faulty seal was to blame. No more dripping, then. I only encountered one issue, which required me to remove the carburetor hose and check that the pulse valve was pumping before continuing. But everything is OK.

My rhino has always been difficult to start after sitting for a day or two. After sitting for a week after receiving this fuel pump, it starts straight away. This has never run so smoothly. Great results.
Yes, you can clean a mechanical fuel pump, but it's not a easy task. You will need to disassemble the pump and clean it with a solvent. Be sure to wear gloves and eye protection when doing this.
If your car has a mechanical fuel pump, it is possible to repair it. However, it is important to note that this type of fuel pump is not as common as it once was. Most newer cars have an electric fuel pump, which is not as easy to repair.
You can use a fuel pressure regulator with a mechanical fuel pump, but it is not necessary. If you do use one, it is important to make sure that the regulator is compatible with the fuel pump.
If your car has a mechanical fuel pump, you may need to prime it before starting the engine. This is because the pump is not always filled with fuel when the engine is off. To prime the pump, turn on the ignition and pump the gas pedal a few times.
If your fuel pump has gone bad, you may be able to fix it without replacing it. First, check the fuel pump relay and fuse. If they are both working, then check the fuel pressure. If the pressure is low, then the fuel pump may be the problem. You can try cleaning the pump or replacing the fuel filter. If none of these solutions work, then you will need to replace the fuel pump.
There are a few things you can do to prolong the life of a fuel pump. One is to make sure the gas tank is kept at least half full. This will help prevent the pump from running dry and overheating. Another is to use a fuel stabilizer if the vehicle will be stored for more than a month. This will help keep the gas fresh and prevent the pump from corroding. Finally, have the pump inspected and replaced as needed to keep it in good working condition.
