Mass air flow sensors are not expensive, but they are not cheap either. They are a necessary part of your vehicle's engine, and without one, your car will not run properly. If you are having problems with your car's engine, it is likely that the mass air flow sensor is the cause.
No, a car cannot run without a mass air flow sensor. The mass air flow sensor measures the amount of air flowing into the engine and is used by the engine control unit to calculate the amount of fuel to inject.
A mass airflow sensor (MAF) measures the amount of air flowing into the engine. The engine control unit uses this information to calculate the amount of fuel to inject. A dirty MAF sensor can cause the engine to run lean (too little fuel) or rich (too much fuel). Lean and rich running can damage the engine. You can clean a MAF sensor, but it’s often easier and cheaper to replace it.
Yes, you can use WD 40 to clean a mass air flow sensor. WD 40 is a powerful cleaner and degreaser that can remove stubborn dirt and grime.

A 2004 Cadillac Deville with the fault code "MAF Circuit Low Input" required this sensor. When I looked at its voltage output, I discovered that it was low and not functioning properly, and that the fuel trim levels were also low. This sensor was a straightforward direct-fit setup task and cost me around $40 less than the nearby parts stores. All readings and outputs are in the proper order, and the code has not returned. Low cost and incredibly quick free shipping. What a fantastic offer!

I was initially concerned because the box in the item had oil stains on it. This gave me the impression that the item had been used and cleaned. Took images just in case, but after 300 miles of use, there have been no problems. My old OEM MAF was cleaned, and I now store it in my car just in case.1. Shipping takes one day (no one can complain about that).2. Installation: within 15 seconds (second install for me).3. I had one minor issue; the MAF pins were slightly bent, which caused the plug to be out of alignment. When making the connection, I had to exert a little effort to straighten out the pins and move the connector just a little bit.

The item was packaged properly and arrived quite swiftly. However, the component number did cover the replacement of the part number on my truck even though it wasn't stated as fitting my 2004 Avalanche Z71. I was getting the P0101 MAF sensor circuit failure, the P0171 and P0172 lean conditions for the first and second banks, respectively. Since it is a recognized problem with these trucks and is what was causing the problems I was receiving, I started by replacing the intake manifold gasket to rule out that possibility. Your car is receiving more air than it believes, which causes the ECU to modify fuel trim levels and result in the lean codes, if your intake gasket has a vacuum leak. Additionally, it can trigger the P0101 MAF code, which indicates that the maf measurements were out of range for a while, typically four seconds, though there are other time frames as well. This happens when the computer detects more air entering the engine than the maf is measuring.I was only able to get rid of my P0172 lean bank two code by changing the intake gasket. So, after realizing that the part numbers were actually crossed, I ordered this AF10043. Five minutes were all that it took to change. An 8mm driver or socket, along with the large hose clamps connecting the intake tube to the throttle body connection, the intake tube to the maf connection, and the maf to the air box connection, are all that are required to change these. By simply pressing the clip and pulling away from the maf, you can unplug the maf sensor wire. There is a little shielding clip that slides over the tab of the maf if you have the two stage clip, preventing accidental disconnections. Take a tiny flathead or pick (I used a transmission line pick tool) and dig under each side of the tab to release the protective clip. The clip will actually slide out fully, revealing the tab where you can unhook the maf sensor. Thanks to this device, I no longer have any CEL codes. My Bluetooth obd-II dongle allowed me to instantly confirm that all of my maf readings fell within the required ranges. If I needed a new maf, I would suggest this product to anyone looking for one, and I would purchase it again. Thanks,

Try replacing the MAF sensor if your gear changing isn't working properly. It has a good chance of resolving the problem. Over time, MAF sensors degrade. However, before investing in a new sensor, 1. check to see if your throttle body is clean, and 2. carry out the following easy steps:Warm the engine up. For the engine to operate in closed loop mode, it must be completely warmed up. Ensure that the parking brake is engaged. Turn the ignition on and off twice without starting the car: on/off/on/off. Start the engine by pressing the brake pedal. Turn off the radio, the air conditioner, the lights, and all other electronic devices. After that, change to D while holding the brakes. Ideally, wait for three minutes. The described process should return idle operation to normal. Try a new MAF sensor and see if it improves gear shifting.Important details1. Toyota buys MAF sensors from Denso. The OEM and Denso MAF sensors are identical. Unless you are purchasing directly from a reputable Toyota or Lexus dealer, I advise purchasing this component (preferably through Amazon.com) over an OEM sensor if you plan to make an internet purchase. There are a ton of MAF sensor knockoffs available online that mimic OEM models.2. Comply with these instructions if your transmission is adaptable. Warm up the engine, turn it off, then unplug the battery for 30 minutes (I also recommend depressing brake pedal several times after disconnecting). While the battery is detached, replace the sensor. Resetting learnt parameters will cause a disconnect. Don't drive recklessly for the first 10 to 20 miles since your automobile will be re-learning them. As soon as the battery is connected, normalize idle operation by following the instructions above (make sure the engine is running properly!). Actually, the transmission should shift smoothly practically immediately once the MAF sensor is replaced if it were the only defective component (i.e., even without learning). If it transfers poorly, the likelihood of there being another issue is considerable.3. Refrain from washing a MAF sensor. The sensor may be harmed by cleaning. Change it in its place.

Have a 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0L with poor gas mileage (14 mpg). All the parts have been changed, yet nothing has changed. Both the OBD II reader and the engine check light were off. I had the idea to try it. It functions and gets about 18 mpg. Even if the MAF fails, it was still cheaper to replace it than to spend a lot of money on something that doesn't work.

Cheap components can be risky, particularly when they involve important engine management sensors like this MAF sensor. The other evaluations on this page helped me get past my hesitation because at $20, that was a chance I could afford to take.installed on my 2003 Tiburon GT, which had a low power output, a choppy and irregular idle even after warmed up, and would occasionally buck and stutter while being driven gently. After a short installation period (disconnect your battery first! ), my car started up as intended, idled smoothly, and ran consistently as it had done before. In a nutshell, my car is fixed and it works!

Fit well on my 2005 Corolla. For a while now, my Corolla has had a lean mixture code. In cold weather, when the car is idling but not yet at thermal equilibrium, the code is typically thrown. The car would almost stall, the idle would dip low, and the code would report. I found a Toyota notice on faulty MAFs for my model year. I bought this thing to deal with the problem. The car runs considerably better and I no longer receive the code report, but there is still the occasional hard idle, albeit softer than before (excuse the oxymoron). Gas mileage appears to be declining as well, however this could be completely unrelated or psychological.Once I have access to more data, I will update once more in about a month.

Versa 2015 Nissan.UPDATE———After learning of my concern, the seller got in touch with me right away. They delivered me a brand-new replacement quite promptly after sending me an apology. The new one functions flawlessly and without any problems. This sensor is malfunctioning or broken. When I ran my service engine light through a test, it revealed that the mass air flow sensor was malfunctioning. So I bought this one as a less expensive replacement. And the price is reasonable. My automobile behaved as like it was starving for petrol one minute and then was overflowing with fuel the next after I installed it and turned the key in the ignition. The aroma of the petroleum was actually in the air.So, just in case, I took it out and gave it a quick spray with mass air flow cleaner. I then inserted it once more, only to get the same issue. So I completely removed it and then installed the previous one again. And compared to this brand-new one, the factory one that was causing the service engine light to come on runs a lot better.

It only takes about 3 minutes to replace the sensor on my 2013 Nissan Quest after you know what has to be taken apart. I cut the ground wire from the battery to turn off the warning light. The warning light has vanished, and the car is now operating normally. What the mechanic would have charged $200 for, I fixed for $20. Could not be more pleased.
A mass air flow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine. The sensor is usually located between the air filter and the throttle body. To test the sensor, connect a voltmeter to the sensor and start the engine. The voltmeter should read between 0.5 and 4.5 volts.
If your car is having trouble starting, idling roughly, or hesitating when you accelerate, it may be time to replace your mass airflow sensor. Other signs that your mass airflow sensor needs to be replaced include a decrease in fuel efficiency and your “check engine†light coming on.
If your car is having issues with the mass air flow sensor, you may need to reset it. You can do this by disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it after a few minutes. You may also need to reset the ECU, or engine control unit.
It usually takes about 500 miles for a new MAF sensor to work properly. This is because the MAF sensor needs to be “broken in†by the engine in order for it to function correctly.
A car typically has one or two MAF sensors. The sensor measures the amount of air flowing into the engine and is used to calculate the appropriate fuel mixture.
