On my log splitter, I mounted one of these Hour Meters. It was a little difficult to keep the wire away from the engine, so I added extra protection by wrapping it in friction tape. I went past the point where the spark plug wire's inductive pickup wire is wrapped. Although log-splitters don't have a throttle cable, the manuals advise doing so. It is fastened to the engine's frame using commercial Velcro. Initially, I had it linked to the air filter cover, but that caused it to shake excessively, which I believed would limit its lifespan. Because I don't know how long it will last, I gave it four stars. I'd give it five stars if I could use it for three or more years. lovely small thingNo wiring is required; easy installation; peel and stick; or attach with supplied hardware. Peel and stick suggests that you may accomplish this with the unit's included supplies. False; there was no provided "peel and stick" industrial Velcro; I used it instead. Two machine screws make up the hardware that is included. I now have four of these top-notch, incredibly attractive one-wire Tach/Hour meters, which were simple to install using either a drill and screw or peel-and-stick placement. Sadly, I wasted money on other Tach/Hourmeter brands that are available here for this price range (and much less), all of which have drastically erroneous Tach readings, less functions, and, as I now realize, a less upscale appearance than the HR-8061-2. I tried this more expensive HR-8061-2 meter after failing to obtain stable or accurate Tach readings on those "other" subpar performing units, even after attempting other selectable firing intervals, 2, 3, 4, or 5 turns of the sense wire neatly coiled around the sparkplug wire, in BOTH directions from the sparkplug(!). The MaxRPM can be selectively reset each run time by simply holding down the meter's single button. This Hardline Products device displays the Max RPM (engine stopped) with a press-and-hold in Tach mode or the "Number of engine starts" with a press-and-hold in Hours mode.It was installed when new on my 4-year-old log splitter and showed 71 engine recoil starts before it was ever turned on, reminding me of how many days of work and juice/water breaks I had taken. The maxRPM on my 4-stroke weed wacker indicated 9,860, which was invaluable for tracking run times for engine oil changes. When the engines are running steadily under a load, one unit on each of my orange 2000W and yellow 3100W Inverter Generators ACCURATELY displays a stable, unchanging RPM value. Refueling or oil change due information can be noted or taken action upon because the hour reading (let's say 48.1) can be accessed while the engine is operating. Take my word for it—I'm a retired motorcyclist (car, truck, and power equipment) repair in my 70s—this is the ONLY Tach/Hour Meter you should buy.

I cut a square 1" high x 1.5" wide hole in the tractor's plastic dash using my Dremel tool, inserted this, and mounted it to the back of the dash with the provided plastic ratcheting retainer. excellent mounting system If the included plastic reusable retaining clip wasn't suitable for your application, you might also use screws or bolts.
