With the plastic fasteners peeking through, you can tell where it is. You can feel the connector of the old harness by inserting your left pointer finger into that right hole and wrapping it around to the right. The connector will come loose with just a little pressure applied to it in your direction and to the left. Remove it gradually while keeping an eye on the connector's alignment as it passes the correct hole. The flat side of yours is likely to be facing you, as it is with mine. Remove the previous harness. To safeguard the bulbs, remove them from the new harness before inserting it through the middle hole, past the right hole, and then behind the panel. Once more using your left pointer finger, check that the connector is oriented correctly as described, then move it upward and toward you against the wall until it mates with the connector. Once I done that, mine went in without any difficulty, though I didn't think it would happen that soon. I gave it a quick finger check after hearing a tiny click to make sure it was secure.8. Reinstall your three lights after the harness has been linked. Before installing the housing, check your truck to make sure all three lights are operational. To check the side white lights, press the unlock button on your remote key. I had to place something substantial on my stop pedal to check the middle red light if you are a one-person show.9. The light sockets should now be installed in the new housing. The housing can then be installed. Be careful not to tighten the screws down too far when installing the replacement housing. If you don't, you'll damage it. They should be snug.Good fortune! I completed this task in between 45 and an hour, and I have some experience with this sort of thing. I moved slowly and took my time to avoid damaging anything.

I had a 2010 F-150 Platinum with a leaky third brake light, much like many of you. It was required to replace the lamp assembly since the rear area of the headliner was always wet. This one was perfect because it met the requirements.After reading the evaluations, I thought I could provide some clarification.First off, there are three bulbs in the STOCK brake light assembly—note that I said BULBS. The light for the two outer cargo lights comes from the two outer bulbs (left and right). The (red) center brake light is lit by the third and center bulb.It's simple to attach this to the stock wiring. The male end "plugs" on this device are formed like the bases of standard lightbulbs. Those will be plugged into the wiring outlets on the truck. One at a time, you'll take out the stock bulbs (see below), then just insert the male end of the replacement into the socket. This device connects into each socket to obtain power rather than placing bulbs in them, similar to how you would with little Christmas lights.Slow down and replace the wires one at a time while replacing your factory light with new one. The NEW brake lamp has two leads that protrude from it, and the plugs are shaped like the bases of light bulbs. They just inserted into the bulb sockets on the truck. The new brake lamp gets its power from this. There is no need to utilize crimpers, cut and splice wires, etc. Simply "plug" the new unit's connectors into the "light sockets" on the truck.WARNING: This device uses LED LAMPS. It only has one white LED strip and one red LED strip instead of individual bulbs. Therefore, it makes sense that you only need TWO connections: the center, red, brake lamp socket from the original unit will pair with the CENTER (male) connector on new unit. (That's reasonable, right?) What about the two wires still attached to the vehicle, one on the left and one on the right? (These supplied power to the white cargo lamps' two outer bulbs.) You can see a wire and male plug coming out of the right (passenger) side of this brake light. Put that plug into the RIGHT (female) socket on the truck. The left (driver's) side still has a bulb dangling from it. You're fully wired up if you simply remove the bulb and place the empty socket into the left aperture on the new brake lamp unit. The socket will be vacant and held in place within the casing of the brake lamp. Just like you did when you removed the previous one, twist the other two connectors into the new brake lamp housing cutouts (sockets).Check your connections right now. The white LED strip should come on when you open the door or activate the cargo light. The red LED strip turns on when the brake pedal is depressed. Once more, the trick is to "match it" (remove one connection at a time) with the new unit. NOTE: Using this device as a reverse light is NOT its intended purpose. The cab (cargo) light is not wired in these vehicles to serve as the reverse lights. The tail light assemblies house the reverse lights. You will need to wire this brake light white LED light yourself if you want it to turn on when reverse gear is selected.Regarding installation, be aware that many users have damaged lamp assemblies due to overtightening of the screws. - The screws that are included with this lamp ARE NOT intended to be used to mount the light on the truck. They serve only to hold the lamp together in the box and are machine screws with nuts. Take out and discard the nuts and screws. The factory screws should also be kept after you remove the stock lamp. The need for them is for reinstallation and they are sheet metal screws.- Plastic should not be put under extreme pressure in order to be "torqued down." Simply "snug" them in. If you crank on them, the plastic WILL break.The gasket is thicker than stock, that much is true. That is because the issue with water entering the truck is being caused by the flimsy OEM gasket. The new gasket from Ford is likewise thicker. So, certainly, the new lamp will protrude wider from the truck. But it's not much. It doesn't look horrible and keeping water out is standard practice.Before moving on to the next phase, perform one final inspection of the red and white lamps after installation.Here are the steps I took to keep it completely submerged. For my caulk gun, I purchased some 100% silicone. I purchased black silicone for my black pickup. After removing the stock lamp, thoroughly clean the space behind the gasket, then let it air dry. I next dabbed a tiny amount of adhesive onto the gasket's face where it meets the truck's body. Apply the lamp to the truck slowly and carefully, making sure that the round plastic protrusions fit into the holes near the screw plates so that the gasket can completely join with the truck. Silicone will emerge from the gasket's interior. It's alright. I then squirted some silicone into the screw holes to seal the screws and holes. Then, snug each one up after carefully inserting the stock sheet metal screws into the holes. Again, you won't tighten the screws; just tighten them. The seal will be maintained by the gasket (and in this case, the silicone as well).Finally, I coated the installed lamp's edge with silicone. A mere amount to bridge the gap! All over, gradually smooth it out with your finger. Use moderate amounts, and avoid obsessive smoothing, as it won't go smoothly as it dries.Let it dry now. Don't forget to silicone-wrap the roof-mounted satellite radio antenna as well! That is a well-known place where these trucks leak.

The lights are attractive and rather simple to install. On my 2006 GMC Sierra 1500, I installed this. The back gasket is very thick and stiff, so when I placed it, there was a significant gap. I decided to use silicone to totally seal it because I didn't want to take a chance on water leaking in. Additionally, the wiring is quite loose, so I advise using electrical tape to secure everything and cover the connections. I can't really complain about the pricing, but I did make sure to take every step to ensure that it will last longer than a year.
